Comic-Con: Legion Footage Debuts | /Film
Director Scott Stewart describes his film Legion as "angels with machine guns." Having seen the footage premiered today by Sony in Hall H, I'd say that's a pretty damn good way to sum it up. We haven't known much about the film, which stars Paul Bettany, Tyrese Gibson, Doug Jones, Kevin Durand, Adrianne Palicki, Charles S. Dutton and Dennis Quaid. That's a hell of a cast, and the early art we've seen is certainly suggestive. Seeing the footage, I've been thinking of some combination of the Christopher Walken Prophecy and a film like Project Terror. More on the footage and the film after the break.
First Look: Paul Bettany's Legion Thriller | WorstPreviews.com
Last February, we revealed that Paul Bettany (The Da Vinci Code) would star in the "Legion" thriller. Today, we have a photo of the banner hanging at the San Diego Comic-Con, which features a shot of Bettany.
Story follows what happens when God loses faith in humanity and sends his legion of angels to wipe out the human race for the second time. Mankind's only hope lies in a group of misfits holed up in a diner in the desert who are aided by the archangel Michael (Bettany).
"Legion" marks the feature directorial debut of Scott Stewart and is scheduled to hit theaters on January 22nd, 2010.

BD Horror News - SDCC '09: 'Legion' Conceived as a Trilogy, Hard 'R'
Update: In addition to the giant piece of art you'll find below, BC writes in from that director Scott Stewart says the film, "will be a hard-R"." At a press event at the San Diego Comic Con for Sony Screen Gems' Legion, stars Adrianne Palicki and Paul Bettany both told reporters that they're signed on for three films that would turn this into a franchise. Obviously, the performance of the first film will dictate if we see more. Directed by Scott Stewart, the story follows a group of strangers stranded in a desert truckstop who must band together to stop an army of demonic creatures out to fulfill an ancient prophecy that opens the gates of hell. Hopefully hell will open on January 22, 2010, I'll take a trip there.
Empire: Movie News - First Legion Poster - Now Official
Just before Comic-Con started we posted a picture of the huge poster image for Scott Stewart's Legion, featuring Paul Bettany armed and angelic as the no-nonsense, gun-toting archangel Michael. Well, just two days later we finally have the official image of the poster for you to view in all its glory. Click below to enlarge the image or click here for our full report from the Legion panel.
The Ancient Angel Language on Paul Bettany's Neck, Decoded - Sdcc - io9
We've long speculated on the meaning of the mysterious tattoos adorning Paul Bettany's body as the Archangel Michael in the apocalyptic truck-stop movie Legion. Now, we've finally learned the secrets of Bettany's angelic ink and the heavenly LoJack system.
We spoke to Bettany and Legion director Scott Stewart about their new movie, in which God turns his back on humanity and orders his legion of angels to destroy it once and for all. Bettany, as Michael, is the only angel to side with humanity, and finds himself fending off the heavenly host from inside a truck stop, where he protects a waitress who is pregnant with the Second Coming.
We asked Bettany about his tattoos, and he explained their meaning as well as their real-life inspiration:
It's angel language, as ridiculous as that might sound to some people... I believe it was Queen Elizabeth the First's spiritual advisor who said he was in direct contact with angels and wrote down this language, this alphabet, and then proceeded to translate for everybody. So it's actually a working alphabet that goes backwards and forwards like a circuit board; it means one thing going this way and another thing going that way, and in our movie, they are prophesies.
That language would be Enochian, invented by occultist John Dee (who was, in fact, a consultant to the Queen). And that's not the only nugget of angel mythology we managed to glean. Stewart tells us that, when Michael falls, he has to break free of God's doggie collar:
[There are] the halos, the collar that breaks off of Michael in the beginning of the movie, and the glow that's this blue light and it starts to fade. We call them "halo collars" and they're like a heavenly LoJack.
