Max Minghella Joins Emile Hirsch & Olivia Thirlby In Alien Invasion Film, 'The Darkest Hour'



Max Minghella ("Agora,"Art School Confidential," the upcoming David Fincher drama, "The Social Network") has joined the cast of the sci-fi film, "The Darkest Hour, which already stars Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby, Rachael Taylor, one of the only tolerable elements of the original "Transformers," and Joel Kinnaman from the Swedish-hit, "Snabba Cash" (which hasn't screened in the U.S. properly, but has made Hollywood agents go all a flutter).

It's produced by Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov, and it's being directed by Chris Gorak ("Right At Your Door," plus he was the art director on "Fight Club," "Minority Report" and "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" which could mean some awesome aesthetics).

The pic was written by Gorak and Josh Zetumer, who is a Black List favorite and once was one of the writers on board the now-dead "Bourne 4." A lot of talent is involved in this one obviously, so we're keeping our eye on it even if the alien-invasion conceit behind it sounds a little generic. The film has a $40 million dollar budget and shoots this summer in Moscow.

De fruktansvärda skogsbränderna som härjar i Ryssland påverkar även denna film där inspelningen precis hade påbörjats i Moskva. Då det gäller utomhusscener så har inspelningen fått stoppas av förklarliga skäl. Men det ska inte påverka filmen försäkrar de ansvariga då oförutsedda händelser fanns med i planeringen.

Tycker filmen blev än mer intressantare när jag läste att utomjordingarna är något slags energiväsen. Spännande!

1st electrifying trailer for Wanted director's alien invasion epic | Blastr





The first trailer for a new alien invasion movie has just been released, and what we see of it here is thrilling, but will the movie itself be the next District 9 ... or another Skyline?

The Darkest Hour is a film from Chris Gorak (Right At Your Door), produced by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, and features a pretty interesting take on the alien invasion subgenre that as of late has pandered a bit.

In the film, we find Emile Hirsch and his friends (Olivia Thirlby, Rachael Taylor, Joel Kinnaman and Max Minghella) are newcomers to Russia, and when these aliens attack, they find themselves not only stranded but the only ones smart enough to figure out how to see these invisible baddies and fight them off. Another fresh twist is that this movie seems to offer an invasion film from a Russian perspective instead of a U.S. or international one, no doubt a result of Bekmambetov's involvement.

The Darkest Hour hits theaters everywhere starting December 23rd.

Perspektivet är alltså så otroligt ryskt att vi får följa ett gäng amerikanska yuppies i Ryssland och bland 143 miljoner ryssar är det bara dom som är tillräckligt smarta för att lista ut hur utomjordingarna ska besegras.

Vad bra att perspektivet är så ryskt, för jag var rädd att vi skulle få det gamla vanliga amerikanska perspektivet.

Jag hade nog förväntat mig liiiite mer av denna film. Gjord efter standardmall och bjöd mao inte på några överraskningar. Grundidén var intressant, men genomförandet ett stort misslyckande. Tråkigt manus, tråkiga karaktärer, usla skådespelare, aliens som var mer snygga än skräckinjagande... Det bästa med filmen (förutom att den tog slut) var de två instrumentala låtarna till eftertexterna och jag önskar att de fått till samma ton i filmen...
