It makes sense... and sort of cool.

TrekWeb.Com - Roberto Orci Says New Star Trek Movie Script is in Great Shape
14:22, 1 November 2007
Trek Movie Report posted an article on the upcoming Writers Guild of America strike and its lack of impact on the upcoming Star Trek movie, with a few quotes from producer and writer Roberto Orci. Here is a few excerpts.
Orci told Trek Movie that Paramount and the team have been working on the assumption of a strike for months. “The script is in great shape and we had a long lead time,” said Orci confidently.
“J.J. [Abrams] and I have been up to the wee hours of the morning getting it all together,” Says Orci. The writer said that they will “always take advantage of every minute and second of time to try and improve anything and everything possible” if negotiations continue. Orci even joked that the strike has its benefits. “For once I will actually see our script on screen,”

Trektoday.Com - Giacchino To Incorporate TOS Theme In New Film
November 2, 2007 - 12:18 AM
Despite the all-new cast, at least one thing will be familiar to Star Trek fans once the eleventh movie reaches the big screen: the opening notes of the film's soundtrack.
"I think that the thing to do would be to hold on to the only thing that does speak—that says Star Trek—universally, which is the [opening theme from the original series]," the film's composer, Michael Giacchino, told the Sci-Fi Wire. "To me, that fanfare, boom, that says it all right there. [...] And this film is about everything that came before that. So, yes, I want to keep that. But everything that was done after that, it shouldn't be about that. It needs to be about these characters now and how they met and all of these things. So it's a very kind of specific place and time."
Giacchino has been working with Star Trek director J.J. Abrams since his hit ABC series Alias, and said that however the film ends up looking, there'll be something special for him to work with. "I don't know what it's going to be, so I still have that anticipation about it."
Part of Giacchino's anticipation comes from the prospect of following up on the work of established composers such as Jerry Goldsmith and James Horner, who worked on the earlier Trek films. "[It's] to think that I've got to go and stand in line with those guys. [...] You just go in scared. You just hope you do your best. It's one of those things where the film will tell me what to do."

Trekmovie.Com - Chris Doohan Gets His Audition
James Doohan’s son Chris Doohan’s name first came up in relation to the new Star Trek film last February when he started a somewhat tongue-in-cheek campaign to land the role of Scotty. He has since gracefully endorsed the selection of Simon Pegg to fill his father’s shoes as the Enterprise’s engineer. That might have been the end of the story, but recently rumors arose that Doohan actually got an audition. TrekMovie.com contacted Chris and he confirmed that he recently read for an unnamed ‘minor speaking role.’ Doohan wouldn’t go into details, but stated:
"Star Trek has been a huge part of my life since I was about seven years old, so you can only imagine how honored I am that they asked me to audition."
Doohan has not been offered a part, but he remains hopeful and thinks working with the cast and J.J. Abrams “would be a dream come true.” Chris feels that he would not have got the audition if it weren’t for the support of the fans. “My dad always loved his fans and now I know why,” said Doohan. If he lands the small part it would not be his first time appearing in a Star Trek feature. Chris and his brother Montgomery had background roles in Star Trek The Motion Picture back in 1979.

The Hollywood Reporter - Greenwood shipshape in new Trek
Nov 8, 2007
Bruce Greenwood has been cast as Christopher Pike, the Starship Enterprise's first captain, in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" feature for Paramount.
The character of Capt. Pike appeared in the original unaired pilot that Gene Roddenberry created. The pilot was rejected by CBS and then shown to NBC, which turned it down, though it liked the concept enough to commission a second pilot. (Only the character of Spock survived the redevelopment.)
Pike was later weaved back into Star Trek lore as the ship's first captain and appeared in a two-part episode.
Abrams' "Trek" is expected to start shooting this month. It is understood that the movie chronicles the early days of the Enterprise crew.
Greenwood, repped by Gersh and Binder Entertainment, plays two roles in Todd Haynes' "I'm Not There" and appears in "National Treasure: Book of Secrets."

Lägg merke till att artikelförfattaren skrev
have set Ryder to play the Vulcan mother of a young Spock

Trektoday.Com - Abrams Confirms Jennifer Morrison Casting
Mera om hennes medverkan.

It's not yet certain what role Morrison will be playing, although it seems likely she will be none other than Carol Marcus, who was first introduced in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as the mother of Kirk's son.

Trektoday.Com - Kirk's Father Found?
The cast for the new Star Trek film yesterday expanded with the addition of Chris Hemsworth and Jennifer Morrison
24-year old Hemsworth will be playing the role of George Samuel Kirk Sr., the father of James T. Kirk, who was never before seen on screen but did appear in several Trek novels. Hensworth is an Australian actor who has been part of the cast of local soap opera Home and Away for the past three years. In Australia he is a minor celebrity, having appeared on the fifth run of the Australian Dancing With The Stars, but in the United States he is still an unknown commodity. According to the IESB, when Hensworth came in to read for the part of Kirk Sr., the filmmakers "were so blown away by him that he was offered the role on the spot....
