Early Basic Plot Details Revealed for Chris Nolan's Inception

Your mind is the scene of the crime. Up until this point we haven't known anything at all about the plot of Christopher Nolan's new action movie Inception, besides that it's sci-fi and "set within the architecture of the mind." The first teaser trailer hit yesterday morning but still left everyone with questions, as it was short and very vague, which is exactly what I like to see. However, our friend Kris Tapley at In Contention has revealed some actual plot details for Inception that come directly from the screenplay. I'm personally a big stickler about not ruining the experience of a movie, so I've pulled only the spoiler-free parts of his article.

So what is Inception about? Dreams. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Cobb, a "CEO-type" of a company that has designed a way to enter people's dreams. He is also somewhat of a criminal, using that ability to extract and implant information. Ellen Page plays a college student studying in Paris who is a part of his team (along with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy). This team "creates" the dreams and Page is an architect or engineer of them. The way the enter the dreams is through an injection (not a machine) and the technology can be transported in a suitcase, which means they can do it almost anywhere (which should be cool).

Cillian Murphy plays a businessman who is soon going to become the head of a company. Cobb wants to insert "an idea into Fischer's mind to compel him to separate the company into two smaller companies." That gives you a sense of the kind of power they have - which is why this is such an intriguing concept. The other big key character is Ken Watanabe, who is blackmailing Cobb. Beyond that, and to stay out of spoiler territory, we're not really sure what his involvement or motive is, but he is the closest to a villain in the movie. Additionally, Marion Cotillard plays Cobb's wife, who causes some trouble, which we won't get into.

Warner Bros. Hits a Home Run At Showest

/../

After all the estrogen left the stage, we got a first look at Inception with an awesome intro by writer/director Christopher Nolan. He talked about how his movies are meant to be seen in movie theaters and how he was happy to be premiering some of the movie to the theater owners in attendance. He talked about how they went to six different countries to film the movie and that’s why you should see it in a theater.

While the trailer has kept the story under wraps, the footage today pulled part of the curtain back. I now know what the movie is about. If you want to stay spoiler free…move along.

From what I could tell, Leonardo DiCaprio plays someone who can go into your dreams and extract info. He can also protect you from people who do the same thing. He works with a team of people and the footage looked amazing. In the trailer DiCaprio says:

“In your dream state, your consciousness defenses lower. It makes your thoughts vulnerable to theft, called extraction. So you can actually train your subconscious to defend itself from the most skilled extractor.” Ken Watanabe then asks DiCaprio how he knows about this. He replies, “because I am the best extractor.”

Cut to shots from all around the world and the rest of the cast like Ellen Page, Marion Cotillard and Cillian Murphy.

That’s why in the trailer you see some crazy stuff as it all takes place in the mind. Of course some of the film takes place in the real world, but from what I could tell, there might be moments where you don’t know what world you’re in. Also, there was a scene where someone told someone to dream bigger about a gun as he pulled out a massive weapon. If you were somehow thinking Chris Nolan can only do Batman, this film will shut you up. Cannot wait for this one.

Also, I spoke to Nolan today, expect the interview soon. Again, the movie looks like nothing you have ever seen…which is why we all go to the movies in the first place.

Kul det där i artikeln om att "If you were somehow thinking Chris Nolan can only do Batman, this film will shut you up." när Nolan har ju gjort t ex Memento förut.

Officiell synopsis ute nu:

Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan directs an international cast in an original sci-fi actioner that travels around the globe and into the intimate and infinite world of dreams. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb’s rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible—inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming. This summer, your mind is the scene of the crime.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSyQ3K0xnYg&NR=1

Third INCEPTION Trailer is Inside the Online Game; Shows A LOT of New Footage
May 7th, 2010

It was bound to happen eventually. A new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Inception just went up online and it basically gives away the whole movie. There even a line Leonardo DiCaprio says that hints at how the film may twist in the third act. But there’s a lot of new footage and afterward, I wish I hadn’t seen it. There are so many cool shots and while I have no problem finding out about the basic premise or even general descriptions of the characters, I think this trailer gives too much away. When you cut and release a trailer like that, how does that not feel like you wasted a year on total secrecy?

I will say that they premiered the trailer in an interesting fashion by having it show up inside the Inception online game, Mind Crime [discovered by the good folks at Nolan Fans]. You will have to track down a movie theater inside the game and then walk into it. If you don’t have a problem with that, then head over to the website. Otherwise, I’m sure Warner Bros. will be releasing the trailer outside of the game in the near future.

Well, kanske blev ovän med fel person. Eller bara valt fel roller? Hollywood you know, anything can happen.

Wha-wha-what? :o
