There's more good news for X-Men fans, because, Shuler-Donner said that she is looking forward to continuing with the X-Men franchise and that X-3 will continue with the Dark Phoenix saga. After X-3 there may be a Wolverine movie.

Simon Kinberg to Write X-Men 3!
Source: The Hollywood Reporter October 1, 2004
The Hollywood Reporter says that 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios are moving forward with X-Men 3, hiring screenwriter Simon Kinberg to write the script!
For the studio, he previously wrote "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, did a rewrite on Jennifer Garner's Elektra, and also a rewrite for director Tim Story's Fantastic Four.
Kinberg told the trade that the storyline is still being hammered out.
"I'm a religious reader of the ('X-Men') comics, and I loved the first two movies," Kinberg said. "I had a great experience with Fox and Marvel on the other projects, and when they came to me and asked me if I had any interest in 'X3,' I was ecstatic. I grew up on them, and I love these comics, and it's exciting to take a whack at making the third the biggest and best in the trilogy; it's our 'Return of the King."'
The film's producers are eyeing a summer start and are starting to meet with directors to replace Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two "X-Men" movies. Deals have yet to be worked out for the actors to return, but they are all expected to reprise their roles.

Some Good News for the X-Men
Source: UAPB Starlet October 12, 2004
The Ultimate X fansite claims to have received word from a 20th Century Fox representative who has some good news about X-Men 3:
Regarding that, we are working VERY hard to find the perfect director to do X3. The studio has it narrowed down to a few good men, and talks are being held often between both parties. Two of these three men have worked with Fox Studios before, and have been suggested by not only the head of the studio, but executive producer, Avi Arad. It's getting quite close, and a final decision should be made shortly after final presentations are made to the studio.

Avi Arad talks Spidey, Iron Fist & Ghost Rider
Source: Anonymous
October 18, 2004
IESB caught up with producer Avi Arad on the set of Fantastic Four. He talked about Iron Fist, the future of Spiderman, Ghost Rider, Brian Singer and who will be at the helm of X-Men 3.
Due to the recent comments of Sam Raimi regarding Spiderman most of us were taking the fact that 3 would be the magic number with a grain of salt.
No one wants to see such a well made franchise come to an end so quickly. Mr. Arad stated that Sam Raimi miscommunicated. He definitely foresees more Spiderman movies to come but they like looking at one movie at a time and not beyond.
On the subject of X-Men 3, he also shared a few tidbits. He told the IESB that the reasons behind Brian Singer jumping ship to take the helm of Superman mainly had to do with money. He was simply offered more to do Superman. There wasn't any falling out or bad blood.
Is Joss Whedon being considered as rumored? Arad says yes. If I was a bettin' man by the look that Avi Arad gave leads us to believe that Joss Whedon may indeed be directing X-Men 3…serious gut feeling people.
The Iron Fist project is not a prioirity for Marvel right now. Ray Park is still attached but it is still way down the line due to so many other projects planned at this time.
One more to go. So far as Ghost Rider is concerned. Jon Voight is out as an actor. He will not have a part. But, he has moved into a producing position and remains attached to the project.

Men...återigen.

Whedon stakes X-Men 3 rumours
Posted on Mon, 25-Oct-2004
There's going to be an increase in hair transplants this week, because "Buffy" fans will have pulled their's all out by weeks end!
Hot on the heels of news that we're about lose Eliza Dushku's series from screens, comes the biggest blow of all : Joss Whedon isn't going to be doing "X-Men 3", as previously rumoured.
One of my favourite spots for anything Jossverse, Whedonverse, attended the Kerry campaign and noted that : "Well it's over and the big news is that Joss will not be directing X-Men 3 but he's working on a new screen play which is not based on anything he has done before."
But there's a ray of hope : Whedon is still keen to do a "Faith" spin-off. In fact, says Aint it Cool, he's "salivating" to do it. Eliza, get on the phone now and call the man. We're in desperate need of a Mr Pointy reappearance!
