Exclusive: X3 Director Might Be Dead
Plus, new Penn-manship for sequel.
March 04, 2005 - IGN FilmForce has learned that the shortlist of directors to succeed Bryan Singer as director of X-Men 3 has been narrowed to five or six names. One of those names, according to a trusty source, is Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead). We were advised, however, that just because Snyder is on the list doesn't mean he's got the job. 20th Century Fox is expected to make a final decision shortly.

In other news, screenwriter Zak Penn advised Sci Fi Wire that he has been brought in to work on the script for X3. IGN FilmForce has been able to confirm that Penn and the previously reported scribe Simon Kinberg are writing simultaneous drafts for X3. This is also what Fox did with Penn and Michael Dougherty & Dan Harris on X2: X-Men United.

Penn confirmed that the biggest challenge in scripting X3 is its large cast of characters. "It's not just about including everyone," said Penn. "It's really more about how you give everyone more and better screen time. ... The answer is that you can't, and you have to make really difficult choices."

"That's actually the most difficult thing about writing an X-Men movie. I think on X-Men 2, I counted 14 main characters, and I haven't even begun to count how many there are now. It's actually very difficult. It might not seem it, but it's a very difficult writing assignment in a lot of ways, because it's so complicated juggling all these different storylines. The movie is still coming together, but I believe that all the major players are back."

http://filmforce.ign...3/593641p1.html

Då får man lite kontinuitet. :)

Och så ett litet löst rykte:

You gotta love the anomynous e-mails, with no way to reply to these folks. Here's one I recieved. I have no clue if this person is for real. They have been right a couple times, but it could've just been by luck/ chance.

Quote:
"...he is not someone who you might think would be interested in doing a movie like this, but he is. He is older then Singer, and has directed a few science fiction movies before, although not for the last 12 years or so. They have already screened the first two X-Men movies for him to watch and going over how much the budget for X3 will be. It also looks like they will start shooting later then this coming June."

UPDATED! We've Got The Name! X-MEN 3 Director Chosen!!
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
Sorry, guys. I wasn't trying to cocktease you. I was just trying to cover a source's ass. To me, the news was that they had chosen a director. Now they can get down to the business of making the film. In the hour and a half since I ran this headline, I've got an avalanche of independent confirmations, and I can honestly say I'm surprised it hasn't been reported anywhere else yet. Seems like it's not much of a secret at all.
Matthew Vaughn, director of LAYER CAKE, will direct X-MEN 3 for Fox.
I'd love to talk to him or to Zak Penn about general plans for the franchise as soon as possible, but I'm sure they're going to be tight-lipped. I'm incredibly happy overall with the way this is coming together. Matthew's a smart filmmaker, and his work on LAYER CAKE is dynamite. Zak Penn gets the X-Men and loves the characters, and he's been pretty instrumental in the franchise as a whole, so I think we're in good hands as the Dark Phoenix saga gets underway. Here's the original story that got you all so irritated with me, and like I said... I was just making sure I could cover some asses before sharing this with you. Enjoy!

Matthew Vaughn To Direct X-Men 3?

Possibly – he's in talks but not yet confirmed
14 March 2005

There was a reason why Matthew Vaughn, the director of Layer Cake, turned up late tonight for the Empire Awards, where he won Best British Director for the aforementioned crime flick. Namely, he had just flown back from LA where, as some websites have reported this morning, he's been confirmed as director of Fox/Marvel's forthcoming X-Men 3.

Well, having spoken to him tonight, all we're saying is… hold your horses, folks. It's likely that Vaughn will direct the third instalment of the hugely successful X-Men franchise, but it's not been confirmed yet. And that's straight from the man himself. It looks like this is a case of dotting the I's and crossing the T's, with an announcement due on Tuesday morning, but note that this news is not yet confirmed.

If Vaughn does take on X3, he'll be filling some pretty big shoes. Bryan Singer, of course, departed the franchise late last year to start work on Superman for Warner Brothers, and Fox/Marvel have been looking for a director to continue the story of the mutant superheroes. Joss Whedon, Alfonso Cuaron, and Guillermo Del Toro – to name but three – are some of the names linked with the job, but Vaughn's name has come out of nowhere. His work on Layer Cake is classy, stylish and visually inventive, though, and if he does sign on the line that is dotted, will be a great choice for the franchise, which is Marvel's second biggest movie property, after Spider-Man.

Currently, X3 is primed to start filming sometime this summer, with a script being worked on by Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg. No plot details as yet, but it could, in all likelihood, focus on the Dark Phoenix Saga, featuring a resurrected, evil and impressively powerful Jean Grey (Famke Janssen). We spoke to X3 producer Lauren Shuler Donner last week, and she confirmed that all the old gang are back, including Wolverine himself Hugh Jackman (who's also producing), with the possible exception of Halle Berry (Storm), who's still in talks.

Needless to say, more news on this as we get it…

Ett litet rykte:

More X-MEN 3 News! Want To Know Which New X-Men Are Joining The Team This Time!!
Hi, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab...
The same little birdie from Fox came a tweet-tweet-tweetin’ at my door today to give me some more X-MEN 3 news for all of you. And this time, I’m not even going to tease you about it.
Seems that Professor Xavier is adding three new team members this time out. Personally, I think I’m happiest to hear that BEAST will be joining the X-Men. I love that blue furry bastard, and it sounds like he’s going to serve the same role in these films that Morpheus did in THE MATRIX.
All of you Cajun fans can finally rest easy. GAMBIT will indeed be part of the film this time around, and expect them to cast a fairly big name in the role.
Now... what would a bit of superhero news be without some controversy? Ready for this one? ANGEL will be in the movie. But ANGEL... will be a girl.
Rev those fanboy engines and bloody up the TalkBacks. This thing’s getting more concrete by the day, and as they cast these roles, we’ll hopefully have some more news for you.

Our Fox insider has given us the heads up on what's currently happening with X3!

Gambit and Beast are CONFIRMED as being in the current screenplay, but no word was given about Angel. What does this mean? We're not sure. Either our source just didn't bother to mention the character, or maybe the character isn't a main player? We're not sure just yet.

The past two weeks have been REALLY hectic at the studio. They have been trying very hard to get everyone back for X3. As of  today, the actors comitted to return with new contracts are: Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellan, Famke Janssen and Patrick Stewart. By the end of this week, they should know if Anna Paquin will be returning. No new word on James Marsden, or Halle Berry. Other cast members not mentioned are already optioned for X3 from previous contracts.

In addition to Jean's PHOENIX, the SENTINELS and Dr. Bolivar Trask seem to be making their debut in X3, if the current screenplay doesn't go through drastic changes.

As with all things in Hollywood, things could change. Remember...the Sentinels were originally going to be in X2. Hopefully it'll work out this time!

ariety has confirmed that "Layer Cake" helmer Matthew Vaughn is set to direct X-Men 3 for 20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment. Filming is scheduled to start in early summer with many of the cast from the first two films expected to reprise their roles.

Hugh Jackman is set for Wolverine, and Fox is in talks with Halle Berry, Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart to return.

Alex Young is overseeing X-Men 3 for Fox, which is aiming for a Memorial Day May 26, 2006, release date.

Härligt med en så positiv reaktion. Önskar jag hade lika stor tilltro. :)

Tycker han verkar lite lovande.

IGN FilmForce's secret X3 source advised us that Anna Paquin is signed to return as Rogue and that the Danger Room will finally be seen. Our insider reiterated that a male Angel will be in X3, along with Beast and Gambit. They also denied that the Sentinels will be in X3, as was reported yesterday at XMenFilms.net. Our source, however, refused to comment on the site's other claim that the film's villain will be Dr. Bolivar Trask.

Trask first appeared in 1965's X-Men #14. In the comics, Trask was the creator of the Sentinels (giant mutant-killing robots). Since our source says the Sentinels are not in X3, might Trask be altered for the film much as X2's William Stryker was from his comic book counterpart?

The Marvel Directory reminds us that anthropologist Trask "also demonstrated considerable talent in the areas of biophysics, cybernetics and robotics. When his young son, Lawrence, developed precognitive abilities, Trask embarked on a privately funded anthropological study of the rapidly increasing, worldwide emergence of genetically empowered individuals. He became convinced that these mutants, the first of a newly evolving race, would use their powers to dominate the world and enslave mankind. Trask eventually founded a small group of researchers, led by himself and his now-adult son, to compile evidence that mutants posed a threat to humanity.

"Drawing on his considerable fortune, Trask hired a large team of cyberneticists, roboticists and engineers to realize his designs for the ultimate solution to what he perceived as a global dilemma. ... Training a thought-reading probe on the ape-like X-Man called the Beast, Trask realized that not all mutants would inevitably use their powers to subjugate humanity. Finally grasping the magnitude of the evil he had wrought, the scientist sacrificed his life to destroy Master Mold."
