John Cusack set for '2012'
Actor to star in Roland Emmerich's thriller
John Cusack has signed on to topline Roland Emmerich's apocalyptic thriller "2012" for Columbia Pictures.
"Redbelt" star Chiwetel Ejiofor also is in talks to join the big-budget epic, which chronicles the end days of human civilization.
Story centers on an academic researcher who opens a portal into a parallel universe and makes contact with his double in order to prevent an apocalypse predicted by the ancient Mayans.
Emmerich and Harald Kloser penned the screenplay, which Sony bought in February.
Shooting will begin in July in Los Angeles, barring a SAG strike.
Emmerich and Kloser are producing. Michael Wimer, Mark Gordon and Ute Emmerich are exec producing.
Cusack, who most recently starred in the horror film "1408," will next be seen in satire "War, Inc.," which he also wrote and produced. He is currently shooting "Shanghai" for the Weinstein Co.
He is repped by WMA.

Roliga är att det finns en B-film som heter 2012 Doomsday
On December 21, 2012 four strangers on a journey of faith are drawn to an ancient temple in the heart of Mexico. For the Mayans it is the last recorded day. For NASA scientists it is a cataclysmic polar shift. For the rest of us, it is Doomsday
