/Film - First Look: Thomas Jane as Jonah Hex?

FilmSchoolRejects has gotten their hands on a concept photo of Thomas Jane as Jonah Hex in Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s announced adaptation of the DC comic book. And while both this photo and Jane’s casting have not been officially (or even unofficially) confirmed, it seemed too juicy not to pass along. I wasn’t a big fan of Jane’s Punisher (or any of the big screen Punishers for that matter — so it’s likely not his fault) but I think this role could really suit him.

Created by writer John Albano and artist Tony DeZuniga, Jonah Hex is a former Confederate officer turned gun-slinging bounty hunter anti-hero whose face was horrifically scarred on his right side. The comic book, which was introduced in the 1970’s, and Neveldine/Taylor have said that they don’t plan on “making a straight-ahead Western but plan to develop the character with some of the supernatural overtones in the hopes of creating a franchise.”

Intressant om sant. Jonah Hex har ju varit en "vanlig" Western-serie den större delen av karaktärens existens,men man har haft även lite annorlunda serier då och då,rätt vanligt att Hollywood vill ha en "twist som det här. Intressant om Tom Jane ska spela Hex.

Va lustigt, såg ett avsnitt av Justice League Unlimited idag som han var med i. Han verkar lite småintressant med sitt minst sagt annorlunda utseende.

This morning we woke up to a few e-mails directing us to Film School Rejects who reportedly sport a conceptual image of actor Thomas Jane as Jonah Hex.

Well, it's a load of b.s. Cool, but fake.

Mark Neveldine, co-writer and director of the upcoming Warner Bros. film, just called to inform us he has no clue what that photo is or where it originated. What he is sure of is this: It's not legit. Neveldine is currently in post-production on Crank 2 with his partner Brian Taylor. The pair recently completed a script for Hex which is based on the DC comic book.

Men filmen är ju på gång i alla fall och det är glädjande nog.

Liite knepig grej att göra med en rätt så normal "western"-serie, men...

Rätt kul att Jane tyckte att manuset var så kul att han och hans effekt-polare fixade sminket själva .Jane är rätt bra casting, så jag hoppas att han får rollen.

Thomas Jane Not Jonah Hex; 279 Hours Footage Shot For Crank 2 | /Film

Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor, the two madmen behind Crank, appeared on The Movie Blog Uncut and talked briefly about their upcoming adaptation of Jonah Hex.

For those of you who don’t remember, a few months ago, a photo of Thomas Jane made up to look like Jonah Hex leaked onto the internet. At first some believed it to be a concept photo for the actual film, but Neveldine and Taylor quickly denied any knowledge. Jane came out and publicly admitted that the concept photo was actually something he did on spec, in an attempt to convince Neveldine and Taylor to cast him in the film. So what is the outcome? Will Neveldine and Taylor cast Jane as the gunslinging anti-hero?

“He’s a great guy,” admitted Brian Taylor, later adding “But we… don’t see the guy as Jonah Hex, to be quite honest with you. But we like him.”

“It was a really huge compliment to us,” Mark Neveldine added. “And we’ll have him in one of our movies.”

So who is going to play Jonah Hex? The directing duo wouldn’t reveal any names.

“We have some options.”

And the casting process won’t really begin for a few more months. The duo are still hard at work editing Crank 2: High Voltage, and are planning to begin pre production in January 2009. Principal photography would begin in March 2009 in either Louisiana, Georgia or Arizona.

Another interesting tidbit that was revealed during the show was in relation to the lightweight consumer grade cameras that they used to shoot the Crank sequel. Apparently the cameras allowed for so much freedom, that they shot over 279 hours of footage in the 31 days of production, which is more footage than James Cameron shot on Titanic (138 days).

November 21, 2008 - Hot on the heels of directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor's departure from Jonah Hex, star Josh Brolin has given their script for the DC Comics adaptation one hell of a backhanded compliment.

"When I first read it I thought, 'Oh, my God. It's awful!'" Brolin informed MTV. "And then I had a moment a week later and I thought, 'Why is it awful?' Maybe the thing to do is to do the most awful movie I can find."

Brolin particularly enjoyed "the absurdity of it," and gradually warmed to the project after thinking about what other talent (in front of and behind the camera) could become involved with it. He told MTV, "In the last couple months I've been going back and forth about it. I went back to my gut. Is it a sell out? What is it I like about this movie? … It's so tongue in cheek. It's so ridiculous."

The comic book adventures of Jonah Hex were infused with supernatural elements. He is a former Confederate officer whose face was horrifically scarred. Hex was introduced in the 1970s, and has had a few comic book series since then.

'Jonah Hex' movie gets a new director - ComicMix news

The Jonah Hex movie is getting a new director, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jimmy Hayward, who directed Horton Hears a Who, has been signed to direct Hex as his second feature, and his first in live action. Prior to directing Horton, Hayward started as an animator for Reboot and then went on to Pixar.

Josh Brolin is still attached to star in the film-- because after playing an ornery cuss from the south who goes in guns blazing in W., this was a natural.

Vet inte mycket om Jimmy Hayward. Lexi Alexander hade varit intressant, men hennes "Punisher:War Zone" floppade såpass rejält att jag tror att studiorna inte riktigt litar på henne för tillfället.

Utöver Josh Brolin så är tydligen nu även John Malkovich klar för en roll i filmen enligt Variety.

Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Hex, a former confederate soldier-turned-hardened bounty hunter and gunslinger.

Director Jimmy Hayward (Horton Hears a Who!) saddles up Jonah Hex--a western based on the DC comic book character--which rides into theatres 8/6/10. Josh Brolin is set for the title role, while John Malkovich will co-star.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen star Megan Fox is in final negotiations to star opposite Josh Brolin and John Malkovich in Jonah Hex, Warner Bros.' action Western based on the DC Comics character. She also is attached to star and develop Fathom, Fox Atomic's comic book-based underwater adventure.

In "Hex," being directed by Jimmy Hayward, Fox will play Leila, a gun-wielding beauty and love interest of Hex (Brolin), a scarred bounty hunter tracking a voodoo practitioner (Malkovich) who wants to raise an army of undead to liberate the South.

The movie is prepping for a shoot in April, with Mad Chance's Andrew Lazar and Weed Road's Akiva Goldsman producing.

Fathom, a comic created by recently deceased artist Michael Turner, follows a young woman named Aspen who learns she is a member of a race of aquatic humanoids who possess the ability to control water.

Fathom is being written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of video game "Prince of Persia." Peter Safran is producing with Steve Bessen and Brian Austin Green. Fox also will produce in some capacity. Turner will be credited as executive producer. Frank Mastromauro also is executive producing.

Vilken kontrast det lär bli. En sån hottis som Fox i en film om nån som ser ut att ha förväxlat tandborsten med en potatisskalare. Hoppas hon gör ett bra jobb, i alla fall. Nån aning om vem hon ska spela? Finns det nån särskild kvinnlig figur i Jonah Hex-serierna som hon kommer få rollen som?

Själv känner jag mig måttligt intresserad av henna i filmen. Det kan bli bra men jag tycker inte direkt att hon är några bra skådespelerska och känns inte heller gjuten för medverkan i den här typen av film. Men jag hoppas givetvis att jag har fel.
