Yes!Battlestar Galactica Prequel Gets the Go-Ahead - ComingSoon.net
SCI FI Channel has given the go-ahead to "Caprica," a prequel of "Battlestar Galactica" in the form of a two-hour backdoor pilot, and has signed Rosario Dawson to develop "True Believer," the pilot for a proposed series based on a comic book she co-created.
The network also said it's developing two more scripted pilots that could become series: "The Stranded," the first project of a joint venture created last year by Sci Fi and Virgin Comics to put together comic books with TV potential, and "Deputized," a comedy drama about an Everyman who accidentally gets special powers that he uses as a member of an intergalactic police force.
And the writer-director Nick Willing and his exec producers Robert Halmi Sr. and Jr., who created Sci Fi's runaway-hit miniseries "Tin Man," based loosely on "Wizard of Oz," have agreed to tackle "Alice in Wonderland" as the source of another potential mini. SCI FI will call it "Alice."
"Battlestar Galactica" is concluding its 3½-year run with 20 final episodes this year. Its "Caprica" prequel begins production in Vancouver in the spring. Ronald D. Moore and David Eick, the executive producers of "Galactica," will join with Universal Media Studios to work on "Caprica." Rene Aubuchon will co-write the "Caprica" pilot with Moore, and Jeff Reiner will direct it. Casting begins soon.
"True Believer" focuses on a comic book nerd who hires a down-at-heels superhero, the duo pairing up to become crime fighters. Dawson is executive producer, and her co-author on the Image Comics book "Occult Crimes Task Force," David Atchinson, will write the script of "Believer" with Matthew Spradlin and Tom Feister.

Caprica Very Different From Battlestar
David Eick and Ronald D. Moore, executive producers of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica, told SCI FI Wire that their upcoming prequel Caprica will be a markedly different series.
Eick compared it to the feature film American Beauty, while Moore referenced the TV soap opera Dallas.
"Caprica is a story that Ron Moore and I concocted with [co-executive producer] Remi Aubuchon, and we're casting as we speak," Moore said in an interview at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on March 18. "I'm very excited about that. If Battlestar Galactica is Black Hawk Down, I would say that Caprica is American Beauty. Caprica is all about the inner lives of the people on a planet and how their personal relationships as well as their professional relationships inform what will become the creation of the Cylons."
Moore, a former Star Trek writer and producer, said that Caprica is not a show along the lines of any Trek spinoff series. "It's a different animal altogether," he said in a separate interview. "Unlike those shows, which are all riffs on the same notion of what Star Trek was, Caprica is really a completely different kind of genre. We're trying to do something different."
Instead of Galactica's action-adventure space-based war show, Caprica will tell a story that takes place before any of the wars happened. "This is really more of a sci-fi Dallas," Moore said. "It's a political story, a family story. It's about the creation of the Cylons, and it's about a company. It's planet-based. It's very character-oriented, very serialized and very much about the characters. It's a whole different genre, and that's what makes it exciting."
Production will begin this spring on a two-hour backdoor pilot. Moore said he will be "very involved" with the pilot, but stressed that it's too soon to say whether he'd remain on board if SCI FI Channel gave the green light for a weekly Caprica show.
"If it goes to series, it kind of depends when that happens and what I'm doing," he said. "We'll just wait and see." --Ian Spelling

The following was posted on TheStar.com and is part of a review of the Season 3 DVD and the extras:
Much lighter are the 70 minutes of producer David Eick's on-set video blog. The blog entries are more entertaining and informative than the usual making-ofs and includes Lucy Lawless pretending to be drunk, Jamie Bamber railing against the show and Grace Park complaining that "just because you're a cylon there's no job security." We also get 70 minutes of deleted scenes, all interesting and mostly featuring quieter moments, offering further insight into the characters. (Källa)

Trekweb - Ronald D. Moore to Direct Battlestar Galactica Episode
26 March 2008
Sci Fi Wire posted a brief interview with Battlestar Galactica producer Ronald D. Moore in which he revealed that he will direct the show's first post-writers'-strike episode.
"I'm very excited," Moore said "It should be a treat to work with the cast and crew in a different context. It's my first time out. I'll make plenty of mistakes, but I'll have a good support system to sort of save me from myself. And it'll be fun."
When asked if there's anywhere he could place a camera that's not already been utilized by one of his predecessors, Moore said "I don't think so, and that's the kind of trap you try not to fall into, because then you start just trying to be clever and [try to] do something that no one else has done," he replied. "I think what's important to me on my first time out is to tell the story well, to really tell a good story, to really make it an interesting character piece and just have a piece of film at the end that I'm proud of."

Ain't It Cool - ScoreKeeper Wants To Tell You About A SuperCool Live Performance Of Battlestar Galactica Music With Bear McCreary!!
Published on Thursday, March 27, 2008
Greetings! ScoreKeeper here sounding the alarm to all fans of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and admirers of its acclaimed composer Bear McCreary.
Next month, on April 13th, at 8:00PM at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California, Bear will be conducting a one-night only concert performance of his music from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.
This is truly one of those special events keeping the mantra behind this site’s namesake alive. If you’re a fan of the show and its indelible music and you live anywhere remotely near Los Angeles, you’ll want to mark your calendars and attend this extraordinary event.
Film music isn’t performed live nearly as often as it should and television music performances are virtually non-existent. Here is a great opportunity to hear one of film and television’s rising stars conduct his own music to one of television’s biggest hits performed by the same musicians who perform the scores week in and week out.
Bear led a similar performance last year at a smaller venue. The success of last year’s show coupled with a deafening demand for more appearances by the young composer has led this year’s concert to the much larger and more prestigious Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood.
To spike the punch at the party, there will also be a host of special guest appearances, an exclusive screening of a new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA music documentary, and a CD signing with Bear himself.
Below is the official press release and flyer with all the pertinent information.
You’ll not want to miss this one!

THE MUSIC OF BATTLESTAR GALACTICA
A Special One-Night Only Concert Performance of the Music from SCIFI’s
Critically Acclaimed Television Series
Evening Emceed by James Callis
(March 12, 2008- Burbank, CA) – CineMedia Promotions, La-La Land Records, and Battlestar Galactica composer Bear McCreary present a special one night concert performance of the music from the first three seasons of Battlestar Galactica, on April 13th at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles.
Considered one of the top 10 shows currently on TV, by Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and TV Guide, Battlestar Galactica won the prestigious Peabody Award in 2005. In 2006 in conjunction with the release of the Season 2 soundtrack CD, Bear McCreary and his ensemble performed a special one-night performance of the music of Season 2. The event was a huge success, selling out the venue. This year the event moves to a larger space, the famed Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip.
The performing ensemble, conducted by composer Bear McCreary includes former members of Oingo Boingo and vocalist Brendan “BT4” McCreary, who sings “All Along the Watchtower” from Season 3. An original documentary about the making of the score will also be presented.
James Callis (the show’s Dr. Gaius Baltar) will host the evening. Additional members of the cast and production team will be in attendance.
Co-presenters La-La Land Records has released four soundtrack recordings of the works of composer Bear McCreary: Wrong Turn 2, and the Battlestar Galactica: Season One, Season Two, and Season Three soundtracks.
The evening will also celebrate the 10th Anniversary of CineMedia Promotions, an independent publicity, web and radio promotions firm specializing in film soundtrack and cast album recordings. CineMedia Promotions, founded by Beth Krakower, has promoted all three of the soundtracks for Battlestar Galactica.
Composer Bear McCreary also scores the hit series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and SCI FI Channel’s highest rated series, Eureka. His feature film credits include Wrong Turn 2 and Rest Stop. McCreary was among a handful of select protégés of late film music legend Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven) and is a classically trained composer with degrees in Composition and Recording Arts from the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.

Battlestar Galactica roared back into action Friday night, as the Season 4 premiere delivered more than 2.1 million total viewers — a 19 percent increase over the January 2007 bow of Season 3.5. BSG also emerged as cable's No. 1 prime-time program in Sci Fi Channel's key 25-54 demo.
Numbers-wise, Battlestar also proved once and for all its appeal to womenfolk, scoring its best-ever female audience when 606,000 women 18-49 tuned in. — MWM

Cylons converge on New York.
by Scott Collura
April 19, 2008 - The Battlestar Galactica panel at New York Comic Con today was an all-Cylon affair, with the recently revealed mechanoids Samuel Anders (Michael Trucco), Tory Foster (Rekha Sharma), and the one and only Colonel Tigh (Michael Hogan) showing up for the packed event.
Not much news came from the panel, though the topic of a BSG movie was discussed. Mark Stern, executive VP of original programming for the SCI FI Channel, said that though the producers of the show have said this is unlikely, he still sees it as a possibility.
All questions about Earth, the final Cylon , and who lives and who dies were mostly deflected by the cast, though. And yet, still, the panel served as a great look at these three supporting but important characters.
