Spoiler TV - Battlestar creator gets new sci-fi pilot
Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D Moore has written a two-hour pilot for a new show set on the Earth's first starship.
A crew of a dozen are aboard Phaeton on a ten-year mission to a distant solar system in the pilot, called Virtuality. To ease the journey NASA has loaded the ship with virtual reality equipment. The crew can take on other identities and "travel" to other destinations - until a mysterious "bug" appears in the system.
Universal Media Studios is making the pilot for Fox, with Moore also serving as an executive producer. Production is expected to start in July.
UMS president Katherine Pope said: "It's very much about what's fantasy and what's reality - what we do to escape our lives and what actually institutes our lives, and are these things very different."

Spoiler TV - Battlestar's Tricia Helfer inks deal with Fox
"Battlestar Galactica" co-star Tricia Helfer has inked a talent holding deal with Fox Broadcasting.
Under the one-year pact, the actress will star in a series project for the network, probably a drama.
Fox head of casting Marcia Shulman first spotted model-turned-actress Helfer on Sci Fi Channel's hit series, where she plays the beautiful but dangerous Cylon Number Six.
Last season, Fox cast Helfer in Jonathan Mostow's drama pilot "Them."
"After we saw the pilot, we were wowed by her," Shulman said.
Shulman then went to the Toronto International Film Festival, where she saw Canadian-born Helfer in the indie "Walk All Over Me."
"She was so incredible in it," Shulman said. "She had a pretty remarkable range, she showed vulnerability and strength. She is a star."
"Walk," in which Helfer stars opposite Leelee Sobieski, is being released in the U.S. by the Weinstein Co.
Helfer, who can be seen in the final season of "Galactica," is managed by Gilbertson Entertainment.
