Spoiler TV - Battlestar creator gets new sci-fi pilot

Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D Moore has written a two-hour pilot for a new show set on the Earth's first starship.

A crew of a dozen are aboard Phaeton on a ten-year mission to a distant solar system in the pilot, called Virtuality. To ease the journey NASA has loaded the ship with virtual reality equipment. The crew can take on other identities and "travel" to other destinations - until a mysterious "bug" appears in the system.

Universal Media Studios is making the pilot for Fox, with Moore also serving as an executive producer. Production is expected to start in July.

UMS president Katherine Pope said: "It's very much about what's fantasy and what's reality - what we do to escape our lives and what actually institutes our lives, and are these things very different."

Spoiler TV - Battlestar's Tricia Helfer inks deal with Fox

"Battlestar Galactica" co-star Tricia Helfer has inked a talent holding deal with Fox Broadcasting.

Under the one-year pact, the actress will star in a series project for the network, probably a drama.

Fox head of casting Marcia Shulman first spotted model-turned-actress Helfer on Sci Fi Channel's hit series, where she plays the beautiful but dangerous Cylon Number Six.

Last season, Fox cast Helfer in Jonathan Mostow's drama pilot "Them."

"After we saw the pilot, we were wowed by her," Shulman said.

Shulman then went to the Toronto International Film Festival, where she saw Canadian-born Helfer in the indie "Walk All Over Me."

"She was so incredible in it," Shulman said. "She had a pretty remarkable range, she showed vulnerability and strength. She is a star."

"Walk," in which Helfer stars opposite Leelee Sobieski, is being released in the U.S. by the Weinstein Co.

Helfer, who can be seen in the final season of "Galactica," is managed by Gilbertson Entertainment.

Battlestar Galactica movies in the works?
Date : May 17, 2008 Writer : "Caffeinated" Clint Morris

I just knew there had to be plans for “Battlestar Galactica” post-TV….

…. And I was right…for the first time, according to my wife.

According to the Chicago Tribune, up to three “Battlestar Galactica” telemovies are in early development. They won’t be officially greenlit until the network knows whether it can logistically afford to do them.

As for what these films will be about? Nobody seems to know yet ("There have been scattered notions floating around as to what the movie/movies (nobody's even nailed down how many) would cover -- and then there's the issue of whether the actors will be around and affordable," one source noted.). What is known is that all three films will be prequels.

Fearing the telemovies may sort-of resemble the ill-fated and forgettable “Galactica 1980” if they fix on events post-Season 4, all three films will be set before the final episode.

If all goes to plan, the telemovies could be filming as early as July.

More Battlestar webisodes on the horizon
Posted by Michael Hickerson on Monday, 19 May 2008

With the mid-season finale of Battlestar Galactica coming sooner rather than later and a presumed long hiatus before the final ten episodes of the series run on SciFi, fans may be wondering how they’ll deal with Galactica-withdrawal this year.

According to the Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan, a series of webisodes are on tap to air on-line between the first and second half of season four. Ryan reports the webisodes will link the first and second half of the season.

Ryan also reports that there’s a potential for one to three more Galactica movies, similiar to this season’s “Razor.”

While nothing has been confirmed from the network, Ryan said undisclosed sources close to the production team have said there is interest in producing up to three standalone Galactica movies. Ryan went on to say that the characters featured in the film would depend on the availability of the actors involved and that if they were to happen, they’d film in July. Galactica finishes filming its fourth season in mid-June and it’d be easier to bring back the cast and crew for movies while they were still “all together.”

The movies would not be set after the series finale, but would take place to fill in gaps during the run of the show, similar to “Razor” or several Babylon Five movies that were produced for TNT.

Sources close to the production are “cautiously optimistic” the films will happen though SciFi has yet to sign off on the films.

Galactica concludes the first half of season four in mid-June. Ryan reports that SciFi will decide this summer when the final ten episodes of season four will air, though she speculates that it could be early 2009 before the season and series finishes its run.

Ain't It Cool - ScoreKeeper Wants To Tell You About A SuperCool Live Performance Of Battlestar Galactica Music With Bear McCreary!!

Published on Thursday, March 27, 2008

Greetings! ScoreKeeper here sounding the alarm to all fans of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and admirers of its acclaimed composer Bear McCreary.

Next month, on April 13th, at 8:00PM at the Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood, California, Bear will be conducting a one-night only concert performance of his music from BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

This is truly one of those special events keeping the mantra behind this site’s namesake alive. If you’re a fan of the show and its indelible music and you live anywhere remotely near Los Angeles, you’ll want to mark your calendars and attend this extraordinary event.

Film music isn’t performed live nearly as often as it should and television music performances are virtually non-existent. Here is a great opportunity to hear one of film and television’s rising stars conduct his own music to one of television’s biggest hits performed by the same musicians who perform the scores week in and week out.

Bear led a similar performance last year at a smaller venue. The success of last year’s show coupled with a deafening demand for more appearances by the young composer has led this year’s concert to the much larger and more prestigious Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood.

To spike the punch at the party, there will also be a host of special guest appearances, an exclusive screening of a new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA music documentary, and a CD signing with Bear himself.

Below is the official press release and flyer with all the pertinent information.

You’ll not want to miss this one!

CINEMEDIA PROMOTIONS CELEBRATING 10 YEARS IN BUSINESS
LA-LA LAND RECORDS PRESENT

BEAR MCCREARY
THE MUSIC OF BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

A Special One-Night Only Concert Performance of the Music from SCIFI’s
Critically Acclaimed Television Series
Evening Emceed by James Callis

(March 12, 2008- Burbank, CA) – CineMedia Promotions, La-La Land Records, and Battlestar Galactica composer Bear McCreary present a special one night concert performance of the music from the first three seasons of Battlestar Galactica, on April 13th at The Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles.

Considered one of the top 10 shows currently on TV, by Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and TV Guide, Battlestar Galactica won the prestigious Peabody Award in 2005. In 2006 in conjunction with the release of the Season 2 soundtrack CD, Bear McCreary and his ensemble performed a special one-night performance of the music of Season 2. The event was a huge success, selling out the venue. This year the event moves to a larger space, the famed Roxy Theatre on the Sunset Strip.

The performing ensemble, conducted by composer Bear McCreary includes former members of Oingo Boingo and vocalist Brendan “BT4” McCreary, who sings “All Along the Watchtower” from Season 3. An original documentary about the making of the score will also be presented.

James Callis (the show’s Dr. Gaius Baltar) will host the evening. Additional members of the cast and production team will be in attendance.

Co-presenters La-La Land Records has released four soundtrack recordings of the works of composer Bear McCreary: Wrong Turn 2, and the Battlestar Galactica: Season One, Season Two, and Season Three soundtracks.

The evening will also celebrate the 10th Anniversary of CineMedia Promotions, an independent publicity, web and radio promotions firm specializing in film soundtrack and cast album recordings. CineMedia Promotions, founded by Beth Krakower, has promoted all three of the soundtracks for Battlestar Galactica.

Composer Bear McCreary also scores the hit series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and SCI FI Channel’s highest rated series, Eureka. His feature film credits include Wrong Turn 2 and Rest Stop. McCreary was among a handful of select protégés of late film music legend Elmer Bernstein (The Magnificent Seven) and is a classically trained composer with degrees in Composition and Recording Arts from the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.

Bear also mentions some exciting news about getting the whole concert and documentary featured on the Season 4 DVD.

We are in the process of putting together a video of the complete concert and the documentary we premiered. Fear not. You will all get a chance to see this thing. I don’t know how yet… maybe I can convince Universal to include it on the Season 4 DVD, maybe we’ll release it online, maybe I’ll burn DVDs myself and leave them at bus-stops. But, it will get out there, I promise!

In all seriousness, though… some enthusiastic noise from the fan community will really help get this concert footage on the Season 4 DVD. So, if you want to see this, help out by drumming up some support online.

Cult - News - 'Galactica' actor unhappy with eye loss - Digital Spy

Battlestar Galactica actor Michael Hogan has revealed his initial displeasure at being asked to wear an eye patch on the hit show.

Hogan, who plays Colonel Saul Tigh, told SFX magazine about his reaction to the third season storyline in which his character loses an eye after the Cylons torture him during their occupation of New Caprica.

"[Showrunner David Eick] said: 'Well, we're thinking about maybe pulling an eye out of him,' [so] I said, 'You know for TV actors... your main tools are your eyes. You've taken fifty percent of my tools away!"

Hogan also explained the reasoning behind the eyeball exit: "David and [fellow showrunner] Ron Moore wanted it to be something permanent, so that for the rest of the time we shoot the series, when you look at Tigh, you remember the occupation."

Cult - News - Olmos: 'No happy ending for 'Galactica' - Digital Spy

Battlestar Galactica actor Edward James Olmos has stated that the show will finish on a downbeat note .

"It’s not a happy ending, we end up with almost nothing ," Olmos told Sci Fi Now magazine about the finale to the fourth and last season of the acclaimed series.

The 61-year-old, who plays William 'Husker' Adama, also spoke of his admiration for the contemporary relevance of the show. "Twenty years from now, people will see this as excellent post-9/11 television," said Olmos. "It’ll be marketed in a way that demonstrates sociological change for the time."

What the Frak? No New Battlestar Until 2009

Battlestar Galactica fans are well-advised to sit back and savor this Friday's midseason finale, because the balance of Season 4 — the series' last, lest we forget — won't be hitting the tube until after "the first of the year," says executive producer Ronald D. Moore. And that's a best-case scenario.

At a Wednesday-night screening of this week's episode, Moore explained to TVGuide.com that even though they are currently filming the series' final scenes, the "practical realities" of post-production — coupled with the formidable end-of-year competition presented by new fall series, baseball and football — places the onset of the final episodes at the start of 2009, at the earliest. "Realistically, there's no way to get back on the air faster," he apologetically added.

NOOOOOOO!!!! :upset:

SyFy Portal | Final 10 'Battlestar' Episodes Could Expand To 12

One would almost think that a big-time mid-season finale of "Battlestar Galactica" was airing Friday night with all the news coming out ... and they would be right.

But as fans start to worry about how long they'll have to wait to see how Friday's cliffhanger concludes, Chicago Tribune columnist Maureen Ryan has some good news: we may be getting a bigger dose of "Battlestar Galactica" in 2009 in the form of at least one telemovie similar to "Razor" and two additional hours tacked on to the end.

Moore told Ryan that the last episode is three hours long, and it's likely SciFi Channel will opt to not air the entire episode in one night, and instead, break it down into three more episodes.

The expansion of the last half of the season would follow a telemovie that could begin as early as the completion of production on the "Battlestar" spinoff "Caprica," according to some sources with SyFy Portal. "Caprica" is already in pre-production, if not in full-blown production, and there are no strike orders for some of the main sets for "Battlestar Galactica" at its Vancouver, B.C., studio.

Because Glen A. Larson holds the movie rights for "Battlestar Galactica" and not NBC Universal, a telemovie would likely air on SciFi Channel and then have an "instant" DVD release, likely within a week of the broadcast.

Ryan had previously reported that as many as three "Battlestar" movies were being considered, but it's unclear if the other two would be made.

Although official distribution numbers were never released, sources have said in the past that sales met the goals set by the SciFi Channel high brass.

The mid-season finale of "Battlestar Galactica" airs Friday at 10 p.m. ET on SciFi Channel.

Sci-fi Wire | Battlestar Finale Updated

SCI FI Channel is unable to confirm a report in the Chicago Tribune that the final part of Battlestar Galactica's last season will expand or that the finale of the series is expected to be three hours long.

The channel will only say that the finale, written by series creator Ronald D. Moore, extends beyond the time allotted for the episode.

The channel is currently exploring how to shoot the extra footage as Moore has envisioned and written it. No premiere date has been announced yet for the start of the second half of the fourth and final season.

Battlestar Galactica: BSG TV Movie Will Be The Man Show

More details have come out about the first (and maybe only) Battlestar Galactica TV movie, which may air as soon as this fall. The good news is, it'll be written by Buffy/Firefly scribe Jane Espenson, who just scored a hit with the BSG episode "The Hub." The bad news is, it'll be directed by BSG star Edward James Olmos, who has a track record of directing some of the worst episodes. (But he also directed a fun Miami Vice episode.) Meanwhile, the movie's cast gives some hints about what it's about.

According to Galactica Sitrep, the TV movie has already offered a contract to Dean Stockwell, who plays the atheist cylon Brother Cavill. Other actors that the studio is approaching include Michael Trucco, Aaron Douglas, Grace Park, Michael Hogan and Katee Sackhoff. What do all of those actors, except Katee Sackhoff, have in common? Well, they're all very good-looking people. Oh yeah, and they play cylons. Could we be getting some juicy cylon backstory? (But how can we do that without Tricia Helfer?) Espenson seems to have an interesting handle on the cylon culture, and the fact that the cylons can share memories and traits among different members of the same model. [Galactica Sitrep]
