The Dark Knight has just crossed the $400 million mark in a record setting amount of time - just 18 days of release. To give you an idea of just how big that is, let me share with you the previous record holder - Shrek 2, which crossed the same $400 mark in 43 days! It’s also worth noting that the movie is still grossing over $6 million on a Monday, which is more money than X-Files 2 took in during the film’s premiere Saturday/Sunday. [mediabynumbers]

Hmm ja, de borde nog ha gett den 15 årsgräns i England. Bra att kritiken är riktad mot de som censurerar istället för själva filmen. The Dark Knight har dragit in mest pengar av alla serietidningsfilmer i USA.

The Dark Knight on Tuesday passed Spider-Man for seventh place on the all-time domestic box-office list and became the top-grossing comic-book movie.

The Batman sequel pulled in $5.6 million to push its total to $405.7 million. Spider-Man generated $403.7 million in 2002.

The Dark Knight figures to overtake Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest sixth-place $423.3 million and Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace's fifth-place $431.0 million by the end of the week and should at least threaten E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial's fourth-place $435.1 million and Shrek 2's third-place $441.2 million.

Titanic is the top domestic grosser with $600.7 million, with Star Wars second at $460.9 million.

Batman borta från biotoppen - Nöje - Expressen.se
Det dröjde fyra veckor. Nu har Batmanfilmen "Dark Knight" petats från den amerikanska biotoppen.

Den nya ettan i USA är "Tropic Thunder" där Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr och Jack Black spelar soldater.
Efter att ha gått upp på amerikanska biografer i helgen har komedin redan spelat in 150 miljoner kronor, skriver AP.

After four weeks as the #1 movie in the country, the reign of Warner Bros.' The Dark Knight finally came to an end, but not before it amassed enough money to pass the unadjusted gross of George Lucas' 1977 sci-fi classic Star Wars to become the second-highest grossing movie domestically with an astounding five-week box office gross of $471.5 million! (Star Wars' unadjusted gross of $461 million included a number of re-releases since its debut thirty years ago.) While it has a long way to go if it wants to pass the long-held box office record of James Cameron's Titanic, it's more than likely The Dark Knight could become the second movie to ever make more than $500 million domestically. (Quite ironically, the continued success of Nolan's Batman film knocked George Lucas' new animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the first movie in the franchise to be distributed by Warner Bros., down to third place for the weekend as well.)

Internationally, The Dark Knight topped the box office with $42.4 million from 7,700 theaters in 60 markets. The movie has reached $328.6 million overseas for a combined worldwide total of $800.1 million, climbing to the 19th spot on the all-time worldwide blockbuster chart.

Remember when we posted concept photos which had been floating around DVD forums of an extremely cool Dark Knight gift set? The one where the film’s DVD’s were stored in the base of a Batpod model? Remember how we were bombarded with comments saying the photos were obviously fake?

Well.. We were just contacted by Warner Bros Anti-Piracy who asked us to remove the “leaked photos” from the site (…which we have). This pretty much confirms that the Batpod Collectors Gift Set is (or at least was) in the works.

Så lite så. Bara kul att vi samlar intressant material här i tråden även efter att filmen har haft premiär. Tycker också att dom valde rätt posters och promotionmaterial till marknadsföringen av filmen, men flera av dom som fanns i det kollaget som jag postade var rätt häftiga och intressanta. Kanske att man får se dessa och även andra bland bildarkiven på DVD-utgåvan av filmen, om det nu blir något sådant som extramaterial.

Counting inflation, Warner Bros. Pictures' The Dark Knight has now officially surpassed Spider-Man to become the biggest comic book movie of all time. The Christopher Nolan sequel has reached $492.689 million domestically while Spider-Man hit a total of $491.952 when you look at the inflated number ($403.7 million without inflation).

"The Dark Knight" Could Break $1 Billion at WorstPreviews™
"The Dark Knight," which now looks likely to top the $400 million mark in international grosses today, will also pass the $900 million mark in total earnings this weekend. The film may even have enough firepower to become only the fourth film to hit $1 billion in combined foreign and domestic box office. The only other movies to do so are "Titanic," "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest."

In addition, "The Dark Knight" is currently the second highest earning film domestically, after "Titanic." Even after adjusting for inflation, the film is still holding second. "Titanic" grossed over $600 million, at this point "Knight" will definitely break $500 million, but will then quickly be released on DVD for the Christmas season.

Warner Bros has yet to announce a DVD/Blu-ray date, but it is assumed that the film will become available in stores in the fourth quarter, probably late November/early December.

Batman may be too Dark

Apparently, Japanese audiences are more interested in the works of Hayao Miyazaki than Bob Kane and Bill Finger. The Dark Knight is performing under expectations in Japan with just $8.7 million in box office receipts after three weeks based on figures at Filmjunk.com.

Compare that with the $93.2 million Miyazaki’s Ponyo on the Cliff has earned in just four weeks.

Film critic Chika Minagawa suggests, "The story is very pessimistic. It has a dark and gloomy texture that Japanese movie fans do not find appealing in a ‘comic hero’ film… Japanese movie fans expect such films to be fun and action packed, for the hero to be attractive, for the villain to be loud and outrageous, and for the movie itself to be easy to understand and light."

The Dark Knight will break the $900 million worldwide gross receipts benchmark over the weekend and is likely to break the $500 million domestic mark in September, although possibly fall short of the $550 million Warner Bros. estimated.
