The "Battlestar Galactica" spinoff prequel "Caprica" has cast its first lead role.

The Hollywood Reporter says that Paula Malcomson will play Amanda Graystone, the matriarch of the Graystone family in the planet-based drama .

Malcomson is probably best known for her role of Trixie, the prostitute trying to become legitimate in the HBO western series "Deadwood." She also had a two-episode stint as Colleen Pickett -- one of The Others -- in the ABC series "Lost."

Most recently, she appeared in five episodes of HBO's short-lived drama "John from Cincinnati. She also appeared in the "Star Trek: Enterprise" episode "Silent Enemy" as Madeline Reed. She made her debut as a bartender in the 1992 independent film "Another Girl Another Planet." She has also appeared in "The Green Mile" and "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence."

Casting is expected to continue for "Caprica" throughout the month, with filming on a backdoor pilot expected to begin this summer.

The show focuses on 50 years before the current events of "Battlestar Galactica" focusing on the family of William Adama and the Graystones. It will feature the initial creation of the Cylons as well as the beginning of the monotheistic movement that continued with the actual Cylons .

Men ska man se nåt med henne så är det förstås Deadwood man ska se.

Eric Stoltz joins 'Battlestar' prequel
Frances Fisher tapped for Sci Fi's 'Eureka'

Eric Stoltz has signed on to star opposite Esai Morales in Sci Fi Channel's two-hour "Caprica" pilot, while Frances Fisher has been tapped for an eight-episode arc on the network's "Eureka."

Alessandra Toressani also has come aboard the NBC Universal Cable Studios-produced "Caprica," a prequel to Sci Fi's "Battlestar Galactica." Stoltz will play Daniel Graystone, a wealthy computer engineer who, after an emotionally crippling family tragedy, uses his technological wizardry to forever change the future of Caprica. Toressani plays Daniel's daughter, Zoe.

Stoltz ("The Butterfly Effect") is repped by CAA and Helen Sugland at Landmark Artists Management.

Torresani ("Malcolm in the Middle") is repped by UTA and Elissa Leeds at Reel Talent.

"Eureka," from NBC Universal Cable Studios, returns for its third season July 29. Fisher will play Samantha Thorne, aka "the Fixer," a corporate titan who is brought in to clean up Global Dynamics.

The actress ("In the Valley of Elah") is repped by manager Tammy Rosen and attorney Dave Feldman.

Mycket intressant casting. Eric Stoltz är en bra skådespelare i mina ögon och det ska bli trevligt att få se vad han kan göra för denna serie.

Stoltz är ganska ojämn skådis imo men får han bara bra material att jobba med (som torde vara fallet här) så brukar han vara bra.

The Sci Fi Channel has added two more actors to its upcoming high-profile pilots.

Polly Walker has joined the cast of the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel "Caprica," /.../ according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the world of "Caprica," set 50 years before "BSG," two rival families -- the Graystones and the Adamas -- grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies. Walker will play Sister Clarice Willow, the duplicitous high priestess at the private religious school, Athena Academy, that some of the younger main characters attend. She's also a key figure in the single-god underground religious group.

Walker joins Esai Morales, who plays Joseph Adama, Eric Stoltz, who plays computer engineer Daniel Graystone, Alessandra Toressani as his daughter Zoe and Paul Malcolmson, who plays a double agent/surgeon.

Could 'Caprica' Star Be Overbooked?

Eric Stoltz is all signed up to play Dr. Daniel Graystone, the creator of the Cylons, in the upcoming backdoor pilot for "Caprica," but if SciFi Channel were to greenlight a series out of the production, would Stoltz be available?

That's a question mark that is looming over the actor, director and producer after he was cast in another backdoor pilot movie, this time with Dean Devlin and TNT called "Blank Slate." This project would be the second pairing of Devlin (best known for "Independence Day" and the original "Stargate" movie) and Stoltz, who previously worked together on another SciFi Channel project, "The Triangle."

"Blank Slate" will be directed by John Harrison, who also co-created the movie about an amnesiac played by Lisa Brenner who is sentenced to death row for a murder case she can't remember committing, according to Moviehole. She is given a second chance by the FBI as part of an experimental unit of the investigative arm's unsolved crimes division where she is implanted with the final memories of murder victims.

The telemovie also will star Clancy Brown, best known for his work in "Earth 2" and "Carnivale."

Since "Blank Slate" is being prepped for a cable series, it is possible that Stoltz could take on both shows if they were picked up since production schedules on cable series tend to be slightly lighter than broadcast networks. However, such a balancing act would be difficult, especially as a lead actor.
