BD Horror News - RUMOR CONTROL: Just How Did Thornton Become Krueger?
I hated this week, I really did. After spending hours wasting my time writing stories on the BS that was GHOSTBUSTERS and the fun of putting out the TRICK 'R TREAT flames Warner accidentally ignited, Robert Englund got fans all stirred up over his claim that Billy Bob Thornton would slip on Freddy Krueger's glove for New Line Cinema's remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. The story, which we all laughed at the second we read it, spread through Internet Land like a dragon burning through a village. Even big sites and news publications reported it as FACT. It was fun watching reputable companies make a complete arse of themselves - but where, oh where, did the rumor stem from? You're going to LOVE this...
During an interview with IFMagazine, Englund tells them exactly where he heard these "facts":
"I heard this rumor from a journalist at a press conference during Comic-Con. I think Billy Bob is a terrific actor. I've been a fan since Evening Shade."
It's amazing how this sh*t spreads.

Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot Gets The Greenlight | /Film
Andrew Form has confirmed to ShockTillYouDrop that Michael Bay’s genre production company Platinum Dunes’ A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot has been officially greenlit by Warner Bros, and will likely start shooting in Spring 2009 in suburban Chicago.
Cape Fear/Arachnophobia screenwriter Wesley Strick penned the script, which producer Bradley Fuller says that it will be a complete reboot taking inspiration from the entire original series, much like the new Friday the 13th film. Freddy Krueger will be recast, but Robert Englund will likely have a cameo. Fuller’s Nightmare pitch actually has me interested: “It’s not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don’t fall asleep or you’ll die.”
I enjoyed Platinum Dunes’ Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, but have been extremely disappointed with their efforts since. I’m interested to see how Friday the 13th turns out.

The Hollywood Reporter - Director set for new Nightmare
Feb 11, 2009.
Samuel Bayer comes aboard horror-pic reimagining.
With Jason poised to return to the big screen this weekend, Freddy Krueger may not be far behind.
New Line and Platinum Dunes have tapped director Samuel Bayer to reimagine their prized Nightmare on Elm Street property and could begin shooting as early as the spring.
As a first-time director, Bayer is a slightly unconventional choice to remake the Wes Craven classic. But the Endeavor-repped helmer is renowned for his commercials and music videos, many of them iconic.
Those videos include Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit and Blind Melon's No Rain, featuring the famous girl in a bumblebee costume. He also has won best director at the MTV Video Music Awards and a host of CLIO awards.
The Michael Bay-run Platinum Dunes has sought out Bayer for films before -- he is attached to direct a thriller for Platinum Dunes called Fiasco Heights at Universal -- but he's turned down more than he's accepted, particularly on the horror front.
This time around, though, the parties came to a deal, with producers feeling strongly the helmer was the man to give their film a fresh visual look.
Next up for the project is the casting of Krueger. While Internet rumors have swirled about the casting, about the only sure thing is that Robert Englund, who played Krueger in the franchise's original go-round, won't reprise his role.
Platinum Dunes' Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are joining Bay in producing Nightmare, which this year hits its 25th anniversary.
Unlike other reboots of classic horror franchises that synthesize plot lines from several films, this one, insiders said, will feature a strong element of the first picture, in which Krueger famously began haunting teenagers' dreams, attacking them violently in their subconscious in ways that resulted in their real-life deaths.
Wesley Strick, who was behind such chillfests as Cape Fear and Arachnophobia, was previously attached to write.
New Line releases Friday the 13th, another classic horror franchise that Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne pioneered in the 1980's, this weekend.

Jackie Earle Haley will be the new Freddie Kreuger | Hero Complex | Los Angeles Times
After "Watchmen," its clear that Jackie Earle Haley knows how to wear a hat while piling up a body count. Now we'll see how he does with a hat and a striped sweater...
In San Francisco, at WonderCon, Haley said he was still chewing on the idea of strapping on finger-talons and stepping into Robert Englund's signature role of Freddy Kreuger in a revival of "A Nightmare on Elm Street."
Freddy Kreuger Now, according to Dave McNary of Variety, the new horror-show is go with the man who played Rorschach locked in for duty as the disfigured predator from beyond the grave. Haley was a child actor, of course, best known for "Bad News Bears" and "Breaking Away" but then his career evaporated. His big comeback (it earned him an Oscar nomination) was his role as a sniveling sex offender in "Little Children" in 2006. Hmmm. That filmography is getting just a bit disturbing, isn't it...?
Here's an excerpt from the new Variety story:
Jackie Earle Haley is going to Elm Street, signing to star as iconic killer Freddy Krueger in New Line and Platinum Dunes' relaunch of "A Nightmare on Elm Street." Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing with John Ricard co-producing. Samuel Bayer will direct from Wesley Strick's script, with lensing set to begin next month in Chicago.
New Line decided last year to relaunch the movie series centered on the iconic killer, who haunts the dreams of teenagers and kills them in their sleep. Krueger was originally played by Robert Englund in the 1984 original, spawing nine films and two TV series in what was New Line's most lucrative franchise until "The Lord of the Rings."

Jackie Earle Haley Signed on for THREE Elm Street Films!
... we caught up with your brand new Freddy Krueger, Jackie Earle Haley, who tells Bloody-Disgusting exclusively that he's signed on to return for more razor-glove teen terrorizing. "Two more," prompting us to confirm, "So, three total?" Haley smiles, displaying three fingers, "yeah." We also broke the news that Rooney Mara (Nancy Thompson) is signed on for one more trip to Elm Street.

BD Horror News - 'Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy' Trailer!
The official website was launched this morning for the forthcoming A Nightmare on Elm Street documentary "Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy", which features the first trailer for the film that can also be viewed beyond the break. Never Sleep Again officially began lensing on August 22, 2009 in and around Los Angeles. Starring and narrated by Heather Langenkamp, star of the 1984 classic A Nightmare on Elm Street and two of its sequels (1986's Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and 1994's Wes Craven's New Nightmare), this thrilling 90-minute retrospective promises to be the definitive look at the making of the iconic horror series and the enduring legacy of its wise-cracking, razor-gloved villain: the indefatigable "bastard son of a hundred maniacs" known as Freddy Krueger.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".
