SciFi Channel Forced 'Battlestar' Webisodes

Strike Chart: How Long Before Your Shows Go Dark?

There seems to be little doubt that the writers' strike will result in a shorter TV season, but just how short are we talking? Well, as you might've guessed, it varies from show to show. Those programs that are either highly efficient (Friday Night Lights) or have entered the season with a backlog of episodes (Men in Trees, Law & Order: SVU) will be in originals well into the new year. But series with tighter production schedules (i.e., nearly every half-hour comedy) will go dark almost immediately. Of course, figuring out how many episodes remain in your favorite shows' arsenals requires a lot of numbers crunching — and as I've come to learn, the only thing you Ausholes despise more than a Wednesday without AA is mathematics. With that in mind, I pulled together this incredibly handy (and 85 percent complete) cheat sheet. Keep in mind: The information below is subject to change, particularly if both sides get back to the bargaining table and resolve this frakkin' thing!

30 Rock: Ten episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are five left.

Back to You: Nine episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are three left.

Bionic Woman: Roughly nine episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are three left.

Bones: Twelve episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Boston Legal: Fifteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are nine left.

Brothers & Sisters: Twelve episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Chuck: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

CSI: NY: Fourteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are seven left.

Desperate Housewives: Ten episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Dirty Sexy Money: Eleven episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are five left.

Friday Night Lights: Fifteen episodes will be produced. The sixth episode airs tonight, Nov. 9, so there are nine left.

Gossip Girl: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Grey's Anatomy: Eleven episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Heroes: Twelve episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are five left.

House: Twelve episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Jericho: Seven episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are seven episodes left.

Law & Order: SVU: Fourteen episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are eight left.

Lost: Eight episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are eight episodes left.

Medium: Nine episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are nine episodes left.

Men in Trees: Nineteen episodes will be produced. The fifth episode airs tonight, Nov. 9, so there are 14 left.

Numbers: Twelve episodes will be produced. The seventh episodes airs tonight, Nov. 9, so there are five left.

One Tree Hill: Twelve episodes will be produced. None have aired yet, so there are twelve episodes left.

The Office: Twelve half-hour episodes will be produced. Eleven half-hour episodes have aired, so there is one half-hour episode left.

Prison Break: Thirteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are six left.

Private Practice: Ten or 11 episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four or five left.

Pushing Daisies: Nine episodes will be produced. Five episodes have aired, so there are four left.

Reaper: Ten to 12 episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are three to five left.

Samantha Who?: Twelve episodes will be produced. Four episodes have aired, so there are eight left.

Scrubs: Twelve episodes will be produced. Three episodes have aired, so there are nine left.

Shark: Eleven episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are five left.

Smallville: Fifteen episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are eight left.

Supernatural: Ten to 12 episodes will be produced. Six episodes have aired, so there are four to six left.

Ugly Betty: Twelve or 13 episodes will be produced. Seven episodes have aired, so there are five or six left.

• If your favorite show isn't included above, don't panic — it's not because I hate you. It's because I'm still trying to track down the info. As soon as I get it, I'll add it to the list.

US TV - News - US strike show status: 'Battlestar' shuts down - Digital Spy

Hittade lite info på Wikipedia om strejkerna:
2007 Writers Guild of America strike - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
1988 Writers Guild of America strike - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Production wrapped on episode 413 late last night, and there’s no certain date to resume shooting. No more scripts exist. My office staff has been laid off. My cast has been suspended, without pay.

I refuse to believe that we won’t finish, that we won’t be back to film our final stories, but I know and accept there is that possibility. The strike will be a seminal event for many of us in this business as it’s put literally everything we care about in the balance (if only for a short time so far) for something we all believe is important.

Writers talk a lot about the strike, about the reasons we’re out on the picket lines and our feelings and experiences in the business. It’s been an interesting three weeks. I’ve connected with more scribes in the last few weeks than in many months before and I come away from it to date with a sense of optimism about the solidarity of the membership and admiration for my peers.

Galactica’s coming back, I frakking promise you that. But I am ready to put the rest of the story on the table and take the risk that I’ll never be able to tell it, in support of this strike.

Like Adama says, you make your choices and then you live with them.

Still.

A helluva gamble.

Things Could Be Looking Bad for Future of “BSG” - Slice of SciFi

As many already know, some of the favorite genre shows have gone dark due to the on-going writer’s strike. The good news is that both sides have agreed to meet the Monday after Thanksgiving to try and hammer out a deal.

For the bad news, we already know a lot of it — from a shortened second season for “Heroes” to networks running out of fresh content sooner rather than later.

However, the news could get worse — a lot worse — for fans of SCI FI Channel’s “Battlestar Galactica.”

According to TV Squad, should the strike linger on too long, there is a very real possibility that the final season of “Galactica” could be shortened or even cancelled entirely.

Deadline Hollywood Daily reports NBC Universal is utilizing the force majeure clause in SAG (Screen Actors Guild) agreements to suspend actors’ and actresses’ working contracts. The clause indicates studios and networks can do this if production is halted on their shows. Letters have also been sent to the cast of “The Office,” “30 Rock” and “Bionic Woman.” Should the strike linger, more letters are expected for other shows.

What exactly does this mean for Galatica?

The clause is a power-play that prevents the actors from seeking work elsewhere while the show is shut down for “hiatus.” Should an actor or actress choose, he or she can break the contract and get other work. However, when and if the show resumes production, he or she could be re-signed to the show.

So, where’s the bad news?

Should this happen, there’s a real possiblility NBC Universal would just opt out of the final episodes of “Galactica.” With a declining ratings and higher production costs, to re-start a show for ten episodes to please what is percieved as a niche audience might not make sense to the network brass. The long hiatus for “Galactica” haven’t helped things since the show has gone off the general public’s radar screen.

One of the actors invovled with Galactica told Deadline Hollywood Daily, “They are not following article 61 of the SAG agreement and are about to get a lot of calls from SAG lawyers. They say that since we have shot the minimum 13 episodes of this season, as per our contracts, that they are under no obligation to pay us or let us go. We are essentially on hiatus. To say yesterday was a tough day on set as this information was slowly presented to us would be a profound understatement.”

Fans of “Battlestar” can only hope that the series will get to finish the story in the way Ron Moore intended. However, if it isn’t allowed to do so, there could be other ways for Ron Moore and company to finish the story–from comic books to original novels to direct-to-DVD, or even a theatrical release on the order of “The X-Files.” No matter what happens, the best thing for fans is for the strike to be resolved soon and not jeopordize the last ten or so episodes of “Galactica.”

Myspace.com Blogs - Fans walk the line in spirit - Steven MySpace Blog

This is a blog dealing with the strike and fandom. If you aren't a part of either… well, don't know what it will mean to you, but you're welcome to walk along with me (metaphorically) as I muse on the topic. A bit long and might be a bit boring for most.

So I arrived at my picketing site at Disney studios. And, 'lo and behold, I ran into Katherine Fugate. For those who don't know, Katherine is an extremely talented writer who wrote an amazing episode of Xena and now has her own series on the air, "Army Wives". We've known each other for years, so we walked along, happily picketing together, discussing business and romance, when one of the strike leaders came up to us and asked us if we had anything to do with the items that were delivered to them. We looked a bit bewildered and he asked our names. When we told him, he said "Yeah, the Xena fans dropped it off in your names to support the Writers." Well, well. How about that? So we copped to it. And that began a lively discussion about how incredible the fans have been during the strike. The strike leader was amazed; he had not experienced such a thing. Not just the Xena fans, but fans for other shows having also been showing their support, having pizzas or cookies delivered to the various strike locations. This is a source of support that has been unknown in the past.

It was funny to see the other Writers grazing the food and drinks, finding out that fans of certain shows had sent the food. Their reactions were amazement. "Really? The fans?"

But, as I pointed out, this was more amazing because Xena ISN'T EVEN ON THE AIR. In fact, it's been off the air for six years! The other fans, bless their hearts, want to see their Writers back on the job and to see their shows. The Xena fans have no other reason than to support us and the cause. They (you) truly appreciate us. And I can't tell you how much that means to me. To all of us.

So, of course, that started me thinking about some things. Mainly about how this Strike has been different from the ones in the past. And why, I believe, the Studios have been taken a bit by surprise. It has to do with, strangely enough, the internet. The very platform that is among the contested items of the negotiation and the area that the Studios claim has no value. It does. And the Studios underestimated its strength. Heck, the WGA underestimated it as well.

Let me put it into perspective. A while ago, pre-internet, fans were lucky to find someone in their neighborhood or office that liked the same show. One, two or three people. But no real sense of community. For all you knew, the three of you were the only three in the world who liked that show. There was no way to reach out, no way to touch the others, no way to discuss things. Okay, see where I'm going? But even more, when Star Trek (classic) was canceled after its second year, a huge letter writing campaign was started to keep it on the air, which was successful for a third year. The reason that succeeded is because that letter writing campaign was initiated by Bjo Trimple and spread to the fandom. Suddenly, there was a community. And it had a voice. And the networks had to listen.

So here we are. In the internet age. And what has happened? Instant community. Fandom can join together for favorite shows or causes almost immediately. And they have strength and organization. And they have voices to speak their minds and discuss the issues along with regular viewers. They did. And they did it loudly. So much so that 60-70% of the public is behind the WGA in this strike.

But that's only half of it. There's another half that is important and I think this speaks directly to the Xena fans. Other fans for other shows will understand and agree with this (especially, I think, Buffy fans) but I have first hand experience with the Xena fans so I will speak of them. That other half is the appreciation that the fans show for the Writers. Fandom tends to understand storytelling better as they are more invested in what happens on those many overt and subtle levels, watching the characters go through their adventures. It was once said to me that Xena Writers had such distinct individual voices that many fans could tell who had written an episode before they saw the credits. They appreciated the efforts and talents of the Writers. Yes, yes, you're thinking, they also appreciate and love the Actors and Directors. Well, here is where it is different: Before fandom, NO ONE appreciated the Writers on a TV show. Heck, many people didn't even know that Writers were even involved. Seriously. Writers are the bastard children of the industry, has been that way for a long time. I could get on my soapbox and go on with examples and explanations, but just know that it is the truth. As William Goldman put it "Everyone knows the alphabet" so everyone thinks Writing is no big deal. Not fans. They know. They appreciate it. And they appreciate what we bring to the whole process. And the effect this has had? We (the Writers) appreciate the fans, I think much more than Actors or Directors who are accustomed with the accolades. And as a result of that, we reach out to the fans, making ourselves more accessible, because we don't take want to take them for granted.

Xena fans show this more and more to me. I'm picketing on a strike line for the rights of series I don't work on and a future that will benefit new Writers… and fans of a CANCELED series send supplies for us, not because of a particular show, but because of their love of WRITERS.

I don't think I can express to you how moving that is for me. I love my career. I just didn't always know the audience did.

Hopefully, this strike will be over soon. The Actors contracts and Directors contracts will be coming due for negotiations next year. I'm hoping that, after this, the Studios will be more willing to negotiate fair terms with them so there will be no more strikes. But, if it happens, I already know that my Xena fans will show the same support for their Xena Actors and Directors, just as they have for the Writers. I should probably be used to their giving, but I never cease to be amazed.

I thank you again. And a special shout out to m'babe down under; MaryD!!!
