SCI FI Wire | Duchovny's Read X-Files 2 Script
The X-Files star David Duchovny told Access Hollywood that he has read the script for a proposed second movie based on the hit TV franchise.
"I have," Duchovny told the entertainment news show. "But I'm sworn to secrecy legally, actually. If I were to tell you anything about, it ... I would be sued."
In July, Duchovny told TV reporters that a second film was in the works and that co-star Gillian Anderson was on board as well. Duchovny played FBI special agent Fox Mulder opposite Anderson's Dana Scully.
The X-Files' creator, Chris Carter, and series executive producer Frank Spotnitz wrote the screenplay.
"We're going to try to keep it under wraps and try to keep it a surprise," Duchovny said. "You know, unfortunately, I think with so much media attention on show business, ... it's almost impossible to think of, like, a Sixth Sense coming out now."
Spotnitz told SCI FI Wire last year that the sequel's story would not rely on the show's convoluted alien-invasion-conspiracy mythology, but rather would be more like one of the show's stand-alone episodes.

David Duchovny Says 'X-Files 2' Will Start Shooting This December - Cinematical
Well, here we go again; talk of another X-Files film seemed to be the movie gossip that refused to die this summer. But for the faithful, it's all finally coming together. Movieweb recently interviewed David Duchovny about the release of the DVD for The TV Set (Jake Kasdan) when the actor decided to drop a little bomb. Duchovny told Movieweb, "the script [for X-Files 2] is written and as far as I know we're all trying to shoot in December at some point." Sure, there had been some vague promises before, but this latest announcement is the first time anyone has heard of a start date for the production. News of the sequel began to heat up when Agent Scully herself, Gillian Anderson, had discussed the possibility on her personal web site back in May. The last time Duchovny had commented on the film was back in July, but he had remained relatively tight-lipped on many of the details involved.
Duchovny has just finished work on Vincent Perez's film, The Secret, and Gillian Anderson will soon begin shooting How To Lose Friends and Alienate People. After that, both stars will have two big empty spots in their schedules, just in time for December. Duchovny requested that fans try and contain themselves and, "keep it a secret and just give everybody a fresh experience of not knowing what the movie's about" -- staying true to form, there was not much he could add beyond confirming that yes, the script is complete and they are ready and willing to start production. Even though it is not exactly the most detailed information, when it comes to X-Files, I think most fans will take what they can get. Stay tuned for updates as they come our way.

It's official: 20th Century Fox announced on Halloween that a second The X-Files movie is in production, with a release date of July 25, 2008.
The sequel reunites stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson under the direction of series creator Chris Carter, who co-wrote the screenplay with former X-Files executive producer Frank Spotnitz.
The as-yet-untitled movie is being kept a secret, but Fox said that the story will be a stand-alone mystery that also takes the relationship between Duchovny's Fox Mulder and Anderson's Dana Scully in unexpected directions.

Variety - Fox sets date for X-Files sequel
Fox sets date for 'X-Files' sequel
Scully, Mulder return to theaters on July 25 2008
The 1998 'X-Files' feature grossed $187 million worldwide.
The long-awaited second "X-Files" film is finally a go, with 20th Century Fox setting a July 25, 2008 release date.
Untitled project reunites "X-Files" creator Chris Carter will thesps David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who will reprise their signature roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
Carter begins lensing in December in Vancouver from a script he co-wrote with Frank Spotnitz, a veteran scribe of the long-running "X-Files" television series, which became a worldwide hit during its 1993-2002 run on the Fox network. Spotnitz also co-wrote with Carter the screenplay for 1998 feature "X-Files." Carter and Spotnitz will also serve as producers.
Studio is keeping the film's logline under wraps, but stressed the pic is a stand-alone story and supernatural thriller that takes the complicated relationship between Mulder and Scully in new directions.
As of now, there are only two other titles skedded for July 25, both comedies. Sony unspools Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly starrer "Step Brothers," directed by Adam McKay, while MGM has bows untitled Ice Cube family laffer.
Plan to bring the "X-Files" sequel to the bigscreen was waylaid when Chris Carter brought a 2005 lawsuit against Fox over how the "X-Files" syndication profits were divvied up. Suit was later settled.
Earlier this year, the issue seemed to have been resolved, with Duchovny and Anderson both indicating that the film was finally moving forward.
Released in 1998, feature film "The X-Files" grossed $187 million worldwide, including a domestic haul of $83.9 million and an international cume of more than $103 million.
