Ronald D. Moore, “Battlestar Galactica” Executive Producer, said that the end of the Peadbody Award winning show has always been in the crosshairs of he and fellow producer David Eick’s sites, and by the middle of Season Three knew the end was near.
“We thought, if we don’t start paying this off and really revealing those secrets, we’ll be moving in the wrong direction and get to a place where it felt like we were jerking off the audience,” Moore said at a news conference on Friday.
“This is a decision that took some time to arrive at,” Eick said. “There was a number of questions internally and a creative agenda we wanted to serve, and we all had to collectively decide when to be definitive about it, and that time is now.”
No real details were given by Moore and Eick concerning the series’ final episode, which will be aired in 2008. But, Moore did say that they are negotiating with Lucy Lawless to have her return as D’Anna Biers and fans of the show will “get to see Earth” in that last episode. He also indicated that, although most of the loose ends will be tied up before series end, they have intentionally let some issues remain unresolved in order to “leave some things open to the imagination.” Do we smell movie deal? Moore won’t speculate except to say “Never say never.”
And, just as we have already reported on one of our shows, Moore and Eick added they haven’t received word from the SCI FI Channel yet on any pickup for “Caprica,” the anticipated prequel of “Battlestar Galactica” which was first announced in early 2006.
Det är väl ofta en bra grej att man inte får veta precis allt. Och som sagt dom kan ju avsluta serien med en film också...

Galactica Roars Toward Stunning Finale With a November 2007 Appetizer - Slice of Scifi
As we have been reporting now for about 5 days, executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick have decided that season 4 of “Battlestar Galactica,” SCI FI Channel’s Peabody Award-winning original series, will be its last. They will use the 22-episode season, currently in production, to draw the saga of humanity’s struggle for survival to a close.
“We respect the producers’ decision to end the series and are proud to have been the home of this groundbreaking show. We have always known that Ron and David had a plan for ‘Galactica’ and trust that fans can look forward to a truly amazing final season,” stated Mark Stern, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, SCI FI.
Production on the final 22 hours of season 4 is currently underway in Vancouver. An extended two-hour episode, “Razor,” will premiere in November 2007, setting the stage for the rest of the season to commence in 2008.
Redefining the space opera with its gritty realism, Galactica’s intensity, issues-driven topicality, and command performances have garnered it unprecedented critical acclaim. In addition to winning a prestigious Peabody Award, the series has been honored as one of the 10 Outstanding Television Programs of the Year by the American Film Institute (AFI) for two years running and the #2 sci-fi project — television or film — of the past 25 years by Entertainment Weekly.
‘Battlestar’ is also responsible for adding to the lexicon of grammatical speech by introducing the expletive “frak” into the pop culture lingo.
“Battlestar Galactica” is from NBC Universal Television Studio and is executive produced by Ronald D. Moore and David Eick. Its stellar cast is led by Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Jamie Bamber, James Callis, Tricia Helfer and Grace Park.
In a conference call on June 1, “Battlestar Galactica” Executive Producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick discussed the announcement.

Jag hoppas verkligen att Larson inte bestämmer sig för att stoppa BSG filmer "bara för att han har möjligheten".SyFy Portal: Glen Larson In Control Of 'Battlestar Galactica's' Future
Years after a prolonged battle with Universal over intellectual property rights, Glen A. Larson may finally be once again the driver's seat of the Battlestar Galactica franchise.
With the SciFi Channel wrapping up the series run of its version of Larson's 1970s creation with "Battlestar Galactica's" fourth season next year, it will be up to Larson on whether or not the franchise sees a future on the big-screen, or even direct-to-DVD.
Larson, who has never called himself a fan of the Ronald D. Moore-developed reimagination of the series, continues to retain the motion picture rights to the franchise and series name, and it's not clear if he would be willing to waive some of those rights to let Edward James Olmos and crew to move to the big screen. But that doesn't mean producers for the show aren't going to try.
"We have to extend the olive branch," executive producer David Eick recently told IESB. "If that happens, you never know."
In the past, Larson has expressed an interest in bringing "Battlestar Galactica" to the screen as a continuation of the 1970s series using the original characters, but it's unclear if there has been any significant movement in putting such a big-screen adventure together.
In the meantime, Larson has been flexing his distribution rights muscle. SciFi Channel is forced to air the pre-fourth season telemovie "Razor" just days (if not hours) before it gets released on DVD so as not to interfere with Larson's non-television distribution rights.
"Razor" is expected to premiere in November before the fourth and final season of the critically acclaimed series returns to the SciFi Channel in early 2008.

Är det bara gamla Cylons "on display" som i miniserien så är det ju ingenting men jag hoppas man får se dom in action. Flashbacks från förra kriget skulle vara mycket uppskattat.

With "Battlestar Galactica" heading into its fourth and final season on Sci Fi, the cable channel is taking every opportunity to create additional content set in that world.
At Sunday's (July 15) Television Critic's Association press tour, Sci Fi Channel announced that a series of 2-3 minute mini-sodes will lead into the premiere the upcoming two-hour event "Battlestar Galactica: Razor." The shorts join the roster of innovative programming for the fall season.
The eight shorts will start airing in October and revolve around the adventures of pilot William Adama (Nino Cortez), the younger version of the series' current Adama played by Edward James Olmos. In the mini-sodes, the young Adama discovers a Cylon weapon that will figure in the adventures of his crew 40 years later. "Razor," which airs on Nov. 24, revolves around Adama's son Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) and his first mission as commander of the Battlestar Pegasus . (Källa)
