KällaIt's Official: Jericho Renewed!
CBS' president of entertainment, Nina Tassler, just posted an open letter on CBS.com confirming what I first reported yesterday: Those nutty Jericho fans brought the show back from the dead!
The complete letter is below.
To the Fans of Jericho:
Wow!
Over the past few weeks you have put forth an impressive and probably unprecedented display of passion in support of a prime-time television series. You got our attention; your e-mails and collective voice have been heard.
As a result, CBS has ordered seven episodes of Jericho for mid-season next year. In success, there is the potential for more. But for there to be more Jericho we will need more viewers.
A loyal and passionate community has clearly formed around the show. But that community needs to grow. It needs to grow on the CBS television network, as well as on the many digital platforms where we make the show available.
We will count on you to rally around the show, to recruit new viewers with the same grassroots energy, intensity and volume you have displayed in recent weeks.
At this time, I cannot tell you the specific date or time period that Jericho will return to our schedule. However, in the interim we are working on several initiatives to help introduce the show to new audiences. This includes rebroadcasting Jericho on CBS this summer, streaming episodes and clips from these episodes across the CBS Audience Network (online), releasing the first season DVD on Sept. 25, and continuing the story of Jericho in the digital world until the new episodes return. We will let you know specifics when we have them so you can pass them on.
On behalf of everyone at CBS, thank you for expressing your support of Jericho in such an extraordinary manner. Your protest was creative, sustained and very thoughtful and respectful in tone. You made a difference.
Sincerely,
Nina Tassler
President, CBS Entertainment
KällaSkeet Ulrich: “I’m so thankful to our fans for not only their passionate support but their tireless efforts to revive our show. The whole cast and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to be together again, and I look forward to the chance to give back to the fans with more of the story that brought us here.”

CBS to “Jericho” Fans — Watch It In Real-time When It Returns
Posted by Sam on Sunday, 10 Jun 2007
Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)
The fan campaign to bring back “Jericho” worked. Now CBS has a request for fans of the show–watch it when it’s on.
In a story published in the New York Times, president of CBS Entertainment Nina Tassler said, because CBS finances its shows based on measures of viewership of regularly scheduled broadcasts, “it’s of primary importance.”
“We want them to watch on Wednesday at 8 o’clock,” or whenever CBS schedules the return of the series later this year, Ms. Tassler said. “And we need them to recruit new viewers who are going to watch the broadcast.”
CBS is hoping to change the viewing habit of fans of the show. A report by the head of network reserach, David Poltrack, showed that over 700,000 households watched “Jericho” on a time-delay. And while this number is on par with other big time-delayed shows like “Lost,” “Grey’s Anatomy” and “CSI”, the Neilsen ratings for “Jericho” weren’t there. That coupled with a big decline in numbers for the spring block of the first season led CBS to initially pass on the show.
The series is also one of the most popular shows viewed on-line. It ranks third overall in shows viewed on-line–behind “Heroes” and “Ugly Betty.”
“Clearly there was an audience of people who were making time to watch the show however they could,” Poltrack said.
Rumors of “Jericho”’s return began to surface Monday as CBS scrambled to seize the momentum the show was generating. The show is produced by CBS-Paramount, which raised some questions about if the show was brought back, where would it be filmed. The soundstages where “Jericho” was filmed were designated for another show, “Swingtown.” The studio decided to bring back Jericho, with filming of the seven episodes set to begin the first of July. The soundstages will then be used for for “Swingtown,” which is produced by “Jericho” executive producer Carol Barbee.
Barbee has agreed to stay on “Jericho” an an executive producer.
One aspect of the return of “Jericho” is a cut in the budget. This could mean there won’t be as much location filming done in the second season as there was in season one. Barbee said it was one of the concessions that had to be made to revive the series. The budget cuts could also mean more limited storylines and fewer recurring guest-stars making appearances.
Lennie James, the actor who plays Hawkins, said he believed the revival of “Jericho” would cement the idea that the traditional Nielsen ratings “are going to become a more and more old-fashioned notion of monitoring television.”
CBS executives, however, are not so certain. Ms. Tassler’s message was more of forming “a marketing partnership” with online viewers and fans who record the show, one that would result in their “bringing more eyeballs to the network” and its traditional broadcasts.
For more on Jericho’s historic return to television, listen to this week’s Slice of SciFi Show #113 on June 13.

Jag skrev något liknande om den nya Babylon 5 DVDn på IMDb. Att fans skulle köpa DVDn och inte ladda ner den om de vill få fler avsnitt. Thats how the media world works.

Jericho' Return Could Come In Fall
Depends on what CBS shows conk out first

One nice thing about being a mid-season replacement is that in this day and age of instant ratings gratification, you don't really have to wait until mid-season anymore.
That could be true for the shortened second season of "Jericho," set to make a mid-season premiere. However, the show could return as early as October, TV Guide reports, all depending on how CBS's fall schedule fares.
At the same time, however, the show is not getting the same budget it did per episode for the first season, but those kind of cuts may not be anything fans will notice, said executive producer Stephen Chbosky.
"In Season 2, we want to investigate and explore Cheyenne, and a line producer could say, 'Cheyenne may come to Jericho now,'" Chbosky told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The seven planned episodes are expected to end with a cliffhanger once again, just as the first season did. But if there's any indication that CBS won't bite for more, there will be a way out, Chbosky promised.
"We know how to wrap up the show if we have to," he said.

'Jericho' Returns With First Season July 6
Network will air reruns every Friday night
By MICHAEL HINMAN
Source: Zap2it
Jun-12-2007
CBS Entertainment President Nina Tassler is keeping her end of the bargain, now "Jericho" fans will be expected to keep theirs.
The network will start the first season of the resurrected show over again beginning July 6 at 9 p.m. ET, according to Zap2it. The network will air the episodes in order beginning with the pilot just after the Fourth of July holiday in the United States.
The network, however, doesn't intend to show all the episodes throughout the summer. On July 13, CBS will air a clip show beginning at 8 p.m. highlighting everything that happened in episodes 2 through 11, followed by the premiere of the season's 12th episode, "The Day Before" at 9 p.m. CBS will then run the final nine episodes each week through the end of the summer, keeping a close eye on the episodes that had originally premiered to 3 million less viewers than the first half of the season after a long hiatus and up against ratings powerhouse "American Idol" on Fox.
Getting new viewers into this show will be important, Tassler said last week in announcing the return of "Jericho" after one of the most successful fan campaigns in television history. Fans of the show that spent hard-earned money to buy 20 tons of nuts and had them sent to CBS to protest the then cancellation by the network will now be responsible for promoting the summer reruns and bringing in new fans who hopefully will stick around for a seven-episode abbreviated run at some point in mid-season.
The show starred Skeet Ulrich and chronicled a fictional Kansas town after a series of nuclear attacks on major American cities in 2009. The first 11 episodes pulled in more than 11 million viewers each night before falling to just 8 million in the spring which led to the show's previous cancellation.
