When the band were recording their "Black Celebration" album, the boys took a break, and recorded a full album of "oldies". Named "Toast Hawaii" (after Fletch's favorite food item at the recording studio cafeteria, and later used as the name of Fletch's record label), the album has not been heard outside of the "inner circle" of Depeche Mode's friends since the 1986 recording...until now.

All copies of the album were thought lost, until Mr Gore found a cassette copy of "Toast Hawaii" in a box of old cassettes. After extensive remastering, the project is ready to be released.

Following recent web releases by bands such as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, the "Toast Hawaii" album will be a web release. Starting April 8th, fans will be able to purchase multiple formats of the album:

$10: The full album in your preferred digital format (AAC, MP3, FLAC, WAV)
$20: The full album in digital format, along with a copy of the album on compact disc, autographed by Fletch.
$40: The full album in digital format, along with a copy of the album on compact disc, not autographed by Fletch.

You were not going crazy, and neither was your computer. While the band did record a set of covers during Black Celebration, the recordings are not being offered for sale. Every day there are new rumours about the upcoming Depeche Mode tour for 2009. Depechemode.de usually bring you up-to-date, accurate info, and this time is no different. You can start looking forward to 2009 - Depeche Mode will be playing in Germany again!

In a phone interview with concert promoter Marek Lieberberg earlier today, it was confirmed that the plans for the 2009 trek are being made as we speak. Mr. Lieberberg was kind enough to reveal some of the details of the current plans, which include a tour start in Israel in May.

For Germany the plan is to have 6 to 8 concerts during the month of June - all in stadiums. No indoor shows are scheduled at this time, and the shows will not be festivals. Ticket sales will start in October.

Nu är ju det här bara rykten men kanske vi kan räkna med ännu en konsert på Stadion det skulle vara kul.
Men då blir det nog bara en konsert i Sverige, bara det inte blir nere i Göteborg (inget illa ment åt Göteborg) i så fall.

Jag längtar i alla fall efter att få höra deras nya material. Har dom samma sound som PTA eller blir det helt nytt.

Mode tickets on sale next month!
German promoter once again let details slip of the upcoming Mode tour. This time in a posting on their official site, where it’s casually mentioned that tickets for Depeche Mode’s mid-2009 tour should go on sale in October 2008. Read on for more…

Marek Lieberberg, Depeche Mode’s concert promoter in Germany, posted today a notice on their official website warning fans against black market tickets being sold at horrendous prices, despite the tour not even having been announced yet. While true, not all that interesting. Far more interesting was the final few lines of the notice:

“Falls die Tournee Mitte 2009 bestätigt wird, sollte der Vorverkauf im Oktober 2008 starten.”

Translated:

“If the tour take place in the middle of 2009, the presale of tickets should start in October 2008″.

Nice try there, throwing in an “if”, but we’re not that easily fooled. This is, of course, official confirmation that the tickets are being released in October!

Several tipsters (you know, usually people who know someone’s cousin twice removed’s dog’s previous owner’s neighbor from the heartland of Europe) have hinted to us that the big announcement we’re all waiting for will drop on October 6th. Depeche Mode-fansen hålls i spänning över helgen. På måndag ska bandet hålla presskonferens från Berlin på nätet för att avslöja "spännande nyheter för nästa år".

Ännu är hemlighetsmakeriet stort, men Jyllands-Posten hävdar att nyheten gäller en ny platta och en turné 2009. Det har ryktats att Depeche Mode i början av året gick in i studion tillsammans med producenten Ben Hillier, som höll i bandets senaste studioplatta "Playing the angel".
