Tack ska du ha. Jag tänkte precis samma sak, och tyckte att ett sådant praktexempel på noll-koll bara måste delas med resten av världen. Eller det här forumet, i alla fall.

Intressant att följa det där tjafset mellan Fox och WB.En grej det kan leda till är ju att Fox får en andel av pengarna som filmen drar in på både bio och DVD.

Hela den här soppan mellan Fox och WB känns ju rent spontant förkastlig från FOX sida. Samtidigt känns det ju lite halvklantigt av nån ansvarig på WB att inte löst detta innan man började filma. FOX gjorde ju inte speciellt mycket med licensen tidigare, men nu passar man på givetvis. Det som känns oetiskt är att FOX väntade med att dra upp en process med WB tills efter att filmen var gjord.

One of the most often asked fan questions about Fox’s Watchmen lawsuit is: Why didn’t the studio file the lawsuit before principal photography began and before millions and millions of dollars had been spent. Fans believed that Fox waited to “blindside” Warner Bros with this copyright suit after it was too late. Not so.

According to Entertainment Weekly’s Fox source, “studio lawyers contacted Warner Bros. about the distribution rights issue several times prior to the start of production but were rebuffed.” If this is the case, then Warner Bros is the only one to blame for this whole mess. On the other hand, WB clearly saw this whole thing coming, which I would assume means that their lawyers believe without a shadow of a doubt that they own the rights to the project. Then again, the judge’s ruling not to dismiss the case seems to prove that it isn’t an open and shut case.

Ah! Nu kommer det visserligen enbart från FOX källa än så länge, men om det är så, då är ju situationen helt annan. Då måste ju nästan som artikeln föreslår Warner Brothers vara ganska bombsäkra på att man skulle vinna en eventuell process. Annars känns det ju lite klantigt...

The New York Times has published an article on the joint report that was submitted to the federal court on Friday by lawyers for both Warner Bros. and 20th Century Fox about the Watchmen rights. Here's a couple of clips:

Fox has said it will seek an injunction blocking Warner's planned release of the film next March. Warner has argued that Fox should not be allowed to stop the movie, after standing by while Warner and its partners on the film, Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures, spent more than $100 million on the production, directed by Zack Snyder ("300").

The report also outlined conflicting requests for a trial date: as early as next June, if Fox has its way, or April, if Warner prevails.

Los Angeles federal judge Gary Allen Feess has set a Jan. 6 trial date for 20th Century Fox's lawsuit over Warner Bros. Pictures' right to make a film based on the graphic novel Watchmen.

Variety says the judge set the date Tuesday during a meeting between attorneys, setting the stage for discovery and deposition proceedings during the rest of this year. Warner Bros. has not backed off March 6 as the opening for Watchmen, directed by Zack Snyder.

Feess indicated Tuesday that the case was not suitable for preliminary injunction and that the issues were too complex to be resolved on an interim basis. The judge had already indicated that he wants the case to move quickly, asking the two parties previously for expedited discovery.

Two weeks ago, Feess denied Warner's motion to dismiss the suit, which alleges that Fox retained distribution rights to the graphic novel through a 1991 claim. Fox has asserted it retains the rights since producer Larry Gordon's option to acquire Fox's remaining interest in Watchmen was never exercised, thereby leaving Fox with its rights under a 1994 turnaround agreement.

Tror även att icke Watchmen-frälsta kan bli nyfikna efter trailen. Fokus på Doc Manhattans förvandling, och andra mer superhjältiga clichéer kan nog lura en och annan på vad det är för film, förhoppningsvis blir de positivt överaskade.

Jag ser redan med förakt på de okunniga föräldrar som kommer att ta med sina småbarn (jag vet att den är R-rated men det lär inte hindra några av de oansvariga generation-X:are som aldrig borde ha blivit föräldrar öht), i enfaldig tro att eftersom det handlar om superhjältar så måste det vara lämpat för barn. Så får de små liven se saker som ett brutalt våldtäktsförsök och en våldsbenägen mördare som kallblodigt skjuter en gravid kvinna . För att inte tala om slutet, vars detaljer ännu är okända men som onekligen kommer att vara obegripligt och chockerande för många unga psyken om det är så pass troget boken som många hoppas på.

Manusförfattaren till "X-men" "X-men 2" och "Watchmen" David Hayter kommenterade(har fått uppfattningen att han då och då postar på sin IMDB-board, men kan ju inte garantera att det är) situationen med Fox och WB såhär på sin IMDB sida några dagar sedan.

I think Fox is a floundering mess, run by whiny crybabies.

ps -- I also think it's funny that the script I took to every studio -- and was turned away for it -- has now become the movie that everyone wants a piece of.

Oavsett om det var Hayter som skrev det eller nån annan, så är det svårt för mig att säga emot. Ett bolag som mycket hellre tar död på en hel film som redan blivit inspelad än att kräva en andel av intäkterna kan knappast få en mer passande beskrivning än whiny crybabies.

Currently the situation has Fox filing suit against Warners and other connected companies over the rights to produce and distribute the upcoming "Watchmen" movie, based on contracts signed a considerable while ago. And it appears that they have a very good case indeed.

But do Fox really want to make a “Watchmen” film of their own? Do they want the money from the Warners “Watchmen” film? Do they want a cut? A payoff? Or just holding up a rival?

None of the above. Sources tell me that Fox want the 1960s Batman TV series. Currently Fox own the TV footage, but Warner Bros own the characters and trademarks, via their ownership of DC Comics. The rights to a DVD release have been held up for a long time now, and this case looks like it may be the instrument to release them.

Oh, Fox will get a wodge of cash as well - many millions of dollars it seems. But it seems they also want the rights to release the Adam West-starring Batman on DVD, something long denied fans of the series. And Warners will get the “Watchmen” film, to release as planned.

There were comic fans who threatened Fox boycotts over what they saw as their scuppering of the Watchmen movie. Looks like they may soon have cause to thank Fox for this action.

Tja, om Watchmen får komma på bio och Läderlappen äntligen får den DVD-release som fans har väntat på så förbankat länge, så tänker jag i alla fall inte klaga. Om vi får ingetdera, däremot...

Misstänkte att det skulle handla om nånting sånt här. Förstår att Warner Brothers inte har velat ha någon release av Batman TV serien men nu är det ju en rätt stor chans att det händer. Ingen omöjlighet att i delen ingår också att Warner Brothers slänger in trailern på "Wolverine" filmen innan Watchmen filmen etc. Och säkert sen också en check på runt 20-30 miljoner dollar. Får se hur det här fortsätter, men har hela tiden tänkt på att det handlar om nånting sånt här.

Warner Brothers just finished a special presentation for Watchmen today on the lot in Hollywood and showed roughly 26 minutes of footage to members of the press. Additionally, Zack Snyder was in attendance to introduce the footage and follow-up with a brief Q&A. My initial reaction to what we were shown was that of utter amazement - this looked absolutely phenomenal. I've been very excited for this, but this surpassed even my expectations.

I compare Watchmen to The Matrix because I really believe it's going to be one of the few films in this century that truly pushes the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. I said that The Dark Knight would revolutionize Hollywood and it's already starting to do so. When I say that Watchmen will change our lives, I really mean it. Frosty here. I literally just walked in from watching about 25 minutes of Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen” movie and all I can say is…wow!

You know when you imagine something, but you figure it will never come true…that’s what I always about a “Watchmen” movie. While rumors have been going for years and years that someone would one day adapt Alan Moore’s brilliant graphic novel, I never actually thought it would happen. After all, how could someone tackle all the adult subject matter of the book and also keep the story, the structure, and all the little things that make the book so amazing. And how could you make someone sit on the planet Mars and make it look real?

But I have to tell you…I saw some shit tonight that will make you require an adult diaper.
