Film scribe Charlie Kaufman ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," "Adaptation") is reportedly working on a screenplay based on Kurt Vonnegut's 1969 classic "Slaughterhouse-Five".
Guillermo del Toro is attached to direct the project, and the filmmaker tells The Daily Telegraph that he and Kaufman spoke for nearly two hours and "came up with a perfect way of doing the book."
The cult satirical novel deals with the World War II experiences and journeys through time of a fatalistic and ill-trained American soldier named Billy Pilgrim.
He warns, however, it'll likely be some time off: "[Universal] will make it when it's my next movie, but how can I commit to it being my next movie until there's a screenplay? Charlie Kaufman is a very expensive writer!"

Alexandre Aja and The Ministry of Content have acquired sci-fi cult graphic novel SENTINELLES written by Xavier Dorison, drawn by Enrique Breccia and published by Delcourt, for Julien Mokrani to direct. Alexandre Aja, Pavlina Hatoupis will produce. Alix Taylor is attached as Executive Producer.
A Paris-based music video director on the move, Mokrani caught the producers' eye with his unofficial short fan film WELCOME TO HOXFORD (http://vimeo.com/29832031) based on the eponymous graphic novel series by Ben Templesmith.
The Sentinelles is a radium punk re-imagening of World War I history with a super-hero twist on it as France and Germany fight for victory. "SENTINELLES is like a Jules Verne ROBOCOP in the trenches with a deep human story in its heart" says Alex Aja "or when PATHS OF GLORY meets THE DARK KNIGHT".
Alex Aja most recently produced MANIAC with Elijah Wood and SITE 146 for Fox International and is coming off the heels of directing HORNS starring Daniel Radcliffe. The deal was brokered by Juliette Matthieu on behalf of Delcourt and Elsa Ramo and Associates on behalf of the producers. Julien Mokrani is repped at WME.
