ComingSoon.Net - More Terminator Salvation Plot Details
Source: SCI FI Wire on January 7, 2008
SCI FI Wire talked to Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins associate producer James Middleton, who revealed more details about the new trilogy.
"It's set after the events of 'Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines,' where we see the nuclear exchange at the end of the movie, and we show what the world is like after this event, and we show how people try to deal in a post-apocalyptic world," Middleton said. "And we introduce a new character, who becomes very important to the resistance and to John Connor, a new hero. It's really about the birth of a new hero."
He added that John Connor will certainly be a central character in the film as well. "I would look at him as a character that is introduced and that will grow in the second and third movies of the trilogy," he said about the character, to be played by Christian Bale.
Middleton also mentioned that Arnold Schwarzenegger is not expected to make a cameo in any of the three new films as long as he is a governor.
Den biten av synopsis som jag spoilermarkerade låter rätt lovande. Det är faktiskt någonting som jag tänkt lite på att jag gärna skulle vilja se mer av.

Cinematical - Josh Brolin to Replace Arnold as New Terminator?!
Feb 6th 2008
In a new interview over at 213.net, director McG spoke about his plans to bring the Terminator back to the big screen in Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. We already know that Christian Bale has been cast as an older John Connor -- the John Connor from the future who helps lead the resistance against the robots. McG spoke about his vision for Terminator Salvation, where this film fits into the confusing timeline (thanks Sarah Connor Chronicles for jamming us all up!), and -- most importantly -- who he wants to take over for Arnold Schwarzenegger as the new (and improved) Terminator.
When pressed to answer who they're looking at to play the new Terminator, McG noted, " ... it's very difficult to say because it's a decidedly masculine role and I think we're living in a time where a lot of actors are very effeminate and they're sort of skinny, heroine chic and there's really a masculine component to the role. And there's guys out there like Russell Crowe and Eric Bana, bring a good physicality, they do what they do, but I don't know if they're exactly right at the end of the day. (Smiles) Josh Brolin is a very exciting actor - we'll see." Hmm, does that mean Brolin is one the guys up for the role? Certainly seems like McG is championing him -- whaddya think?
McG also spoke about long conversations he had with James Cameron, and how Cameron reassured him that he felt the same sort of nervous when he had to take over for Ridley Scott on the second Alien picture. When asked whether this film would take place after Terminator 2 or Terminator 3, McG replied, "This is the space between; this is post Judgment day. So there really is no continuation, you know what I mean? Its sort of a different animal, whereas the first two pictures on this thing are Terminators from the future, this picture takes place in 2019." He later added, "We speak to the idea of one version of a future, which is clearly articulated by Michael Biehn in the first picture." Check out the full interview over here; Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is due out in June of 2009.

Bloody Disgusting - More Cast Named For Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins
Wednesday, February 13, 2008
Sam Worthington (Avatar, Rogue) will star in Warner Bros. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, the fourth film in the time travel franchise. The fact the Australian actor just played the lead in the James Cameron-directed "Avatar" is no coincidence. Cameron recommended Worthington to "Terminator Salvation" director McG, indicating that the director of the first two "Terminator" installments might be warming to the new pic. Read on for the entire story. While the "Terminator Salvation" plot has twists and turns that are being kept under tight wraps, Worthington will play the role of Marcus, a central figure in a three-picture arc that begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust. A group of survivors led by John Connor (Christian Bale) struggles to keep the machines from finishing the job.
Cameron kept his distance from "Terminator 3," the first he didn't direct.
Cameron never took a public position on the Jonathan Mostow-directed "T3," which grossed more than $430 million worldwide. Speculation is his history with some of the producers could have prompted him to stay on the sidelines.
"T3" was owned by Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna, who years ago bought the rights at a Carolco bankruptcy auction out from under Cameron, prompting the director to remove himself from involvement. And the "T3" rights package included a multimillion-dollar rights buyout and exec producer credit for Gale Anne Hurd, Cameron's former partner and ex-wife. He famously signed over his "Terminator" rights for $1 to her before they made the first film, in exchange for a guarantee he wouldn't be replaced as director. It was a deal that left him on the outside looking in as everyone else cashed in on "T3."
The slate is clean after Halcyon Co. bought out all franchise rights from Kassar and Vajna and set the new film for domestic distribution at Warner Bros. for summer 2009.
Sources said McG spoke on the phone recently with Cameron, who is in New Zealand working on "Avatar." It was during that chat that he recommended Worthington, who in "Avatar" plays a paraplegic war veteran from Earth who's brought to another planet inhabited by a race of humanoids at odds with Earth's inhabitants.

Bloody Disgusting - Script Work and New Casting For Fourth Terminator
Wednesday, March 19, 2008
Rumors of a new title have been circulating the web, but in a new press release Warner Bros. is still calling the new Terminator sequel, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. With production set to begin in early may, more casting news has come in.
Anton Yelchin is in negotiations to star as post-apocalyptic warrior Kyle Reese in director McG's "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins."
With production scheduled to start in early May, Paul Haggis also has been in talks about coming on board to work on the sequel's script.
Yelchin will play a teen version of Reese, the man who fathered world savior John Connor in the original "Terminator" film.
Christian Bale will play John Connor in the time-traveling third sequel to the 1984 sci-fi action film, produced by the Halcyon Co. and set for a Warner Bros. release in summer 2009.
Reese, one of the children who survived a machine-driven nuclear holocaust, befriends Marcus (Sam Worthington), an early edition of the Terminator cyborg played in previous films by Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In "Salvation," the character is a young version of the one played by Michael Biehn, who traveled back in time in the original to impregnate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) and father the world's future savior.
The film picks up with their son (Bale), now in his 30s, fighting desperately to save a decimated civilization against machines that have taken control. It's unclear if the father and child reunion is only a cyborg motion away in the new film.
Halcyon's Victor Kubicek and Derek Anderson are producing with Moritz Borman. David Campbell Wilson, John Brancato and Michael Ferris wrote the screenplay. Principal photography is set to begin in early May.
Yelchin ("Charlie Bartlett") will next be seen as Chekov in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" for Paramount. He is repped by CAA and attorney David Weber.

T4 D.O.A?
Date : April 20, 2008 Writer : Clint Morris
"Terminator 4" canceled? Has Warner Bros decided to throw it all in just weeks out from principal photography? And Why?
According to UGO's The Movie Blog, Sam Worthington's going to be pissed he passed on "G.I Joe".
Its the weekend, so nobody's going to be around to confirm or deny the story, but first thing Monday we'll get straight on the C.B and see if someone's out there that can give us some dirt.

Verkar som om rykterna om att 4e filmen skulle ligga risigt till var överdrivna...Moviehole.net - Terminator : Rise of the Bloodgood
On the weekend, there were rumours that "Terminator 4" had shut down.
Today, Reuters announces the female lead.
If I were a betting man, I'd put my lung on the table and say the film is safe - no cancellation, not if they're announcing cast.
So who is the actress they've announced? She's Moon Bloodgood (gotta love that name), fresh from the short-lived series "Journeyman".
According to the aforelinked site, 32-year-old Bloodgood will play "a survivor of the nuclear holocaust perpetrated by that rascally SkyNet".
Not sure whether she's playing Kate (the character played by Claire Danes), John Connor's crush from "Terminator 3" (who would become his wife), or a new character. Probably a new character, since there was nothing remotely Dutch, Irish or Korean about the character of Kate in the previous film - and Bloodgood is a combination of all three.
According to the trade, "Terminator 4" (It was to be titled "Terminator Salvation : The Future Begins", but producers have reportedly scrapped that title) is still set to shoot from May 5. McG directs; Sam Worthington, Christian Bale, Anton Yelchin and (possibly) Josh Brolin star.

Moviehole.net - Arnold 'would be a part of' Teminator 4
In this latest chapter of “Will Schwarzenegger make a Cameo in Terminator 4?”, we hear from someone whose opinion probably carries more weight than a forum member's - yep, the Governor has come out and actually mentioned the odds of an Austrian cyborg walking the skully terrain of the future.
If the film – or even just his scene – is shot in Sunny Kalifornya , Schwarzenegger says he’d love to reprise his role as everyone’s favourite sunglasses-wearing T-800. (AB King has wood!)
"I've never had a dialogue with anyone about it. But if they shoot the movie in California, I would (be a part of it), yes”, Contact Music quoted the big guy as saying.
Here’s 10 million for ten minutes work, Arn.

PG-13
Vad tror/tycker ni om det?
Personligen vet jag inte vad jag ska tycka om detta projekt över huvud taget. Det mesta känns sådär måste jag säga. PG-13 uttalandet förstärker tyvärr bara den känslan.

Variety - Common thread in Terminator film
Posted: Mon., May 5, 2008
Rapper Common has signed on to co-star in "Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins" for Halcyon Pictures.
Christian Bale and Sam Worthington have already boarded the project, which will be distributed by Warner Bros. domestically. Sony will release the film in most foreign territories.
Story centers on John Connor (Bale), now in his 30s, who leads what is left of the human race in a battle against the machines. Common will play a freedom fighter and member of Connor's inner circle.
McG will direct from a script by John D. Brancato & Michael Ferris and Paul Haggis.
Dan Lin, Mortiz Borman, Victor Kubicek, Jeff Silver, Derek Anderson and Jeanne Allgood are producing the film, which will bow May 22, 2009.
Common can next be seen onscreen in "Wanted," starring Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman and James McAvoy. Later this summer, he is set to release his eighth album, "Invincible Summer."

Spoiler TV - Terminator 4 Begins Filming
It looks like the Terminator fears not the wrath of unionized labor! The project will start to roll even though the SAG has yet to strike a deal with studios. We get the following news from the Teamster caves of Yahoo:
Cameras began rolling this week on the latest “Terminator” movie — estimated to cost about $150 million — for what many Hollywood watchers say is a late start given concerns that labor tensions could lead to an actors strike by July. “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins,” began shooting on Monday in New Mexico, bucking a trend in which studios have mostly avoided launching new productions they cannot be sure of completing before the Screen Actors Guild contract expires on June 30, a date being treated as a facto strike deadline.
SAG and Hollywood’s major studios hit a stalemate on Tuesday after three weeks of talks, stoking fears of renewed Hollywood labor unrest after a 100-day screenwriters strike that ended in February. Union leaders say they still hope to reach a deal without resorting to a walkout, and SAG has yet to even seek authorization from its 120,000 members to call a strike.
The SAG is stalling to try and milk as much as they can, but I am going to bet that they will not strike. With the bailing of the AMPTP, they are going to be fucked if they don’t chalk a deal, but the AMPTP does. The SAG will be seen as the less reasoned and co-operatine of the two, pushing the power of AMPTP up and of the SAG down. With luck, everything will be shored up soon, and the two unions can work out the problems between them. Having two separate unions weakens their bargaining power considerably.
Terminator 4 has its own deadlines to meet and I think going forward with production is the right thing to do. If a strike happens; they are fucked - but It’s a gamble they have to take, and I think it’s the lesser of two evils in this situation.
The beginning of production will put to rest rumors that the film has been axed, and with luck, this project will do justice to the terminator universe.

Some interesting news has been uncovered in relation to the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. Concept artist and character designer Miles Teves was interviewed in April by Fanboy Confidential. Teves is currently working on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, and shared some, most likely unapproved, details with them about the upcoming film. While some could take this the wrong way, his explanations for the characters actually get me more interested. Although the production recently hit a rough spot with the announcement of its PG-13 rating, I think over time it will redeem itself, especially when we start seeing some actual footage. Teves talks about what we can expect, including a retro look, and "a lot of tanks, a lot of vehicles, a lot of weird machines."
Teves is an incredibly experienced creative professional, working for ILM and as the concept artist and conceptual designer on films like RoboCop, Terminator 3, Spider-Man, and many more. In the interview, he explains that filmmakers like J.J. Abrams (for Star Trek) and George Lucas (for Star Wars) have a tendency to design more futuristic technology when they should be going more retro. He has done all kinds of work on this new Terminator and promises that won't be the case with this one. Teves explains why he decided to use a more retro look for the new Terminator."But there is a new endo-skeleton-type super Terminator that in a way is actually cruder than any of the ones from any of the other films… This one sort of takes place before all the other films in a weird way. So everything in the film is actually supposed to be cruder technology than we see even in the first Terminator."
Teves continues, "The first three films are essentially these hard driving chase films where you have this unstoppable force pursuing the hero. This is dramatically different in its structure and characters. It's sort of the John Conner story, but strangely enough John Conner was not the main character. There is another guy who is the main protagonist of the film."
Definitely interesting, but not problematic in the least. While it is apparent that Halcyon, the company who is producing this new trilogy, is in it for the money by making it PG-13 and capitalizing on merchandising and toys, I don't imagine the films will end up all that bad. They really seem to understand the idea of turning the franchise into something incredibly unique and entertaining, why still maintaining the spirit of the originals. Sure, it will be different from the first three Terminator movies, but it will be very enjoyable in its own right. A Terminator for the new generation, per se. Before wrapping up, Teves also touched a bit on the story and setting in the film."It completely takes place in the machine world in the post apocalyptic aftermath… There will be lots of hardware and cool toys to be sold. And hopefully they will not water them down and they'll be as cool as the designs. And there was cool designs. A lot of tanks, a lot of vehicles, a lot of weird machines."
I'm not entirely sure what to make of all this, largely because we have no imagery to connect with his statements just yet. Although I'm sure we won't see anything until Comic-Con in July, I'm actually intrigued by hearing Teves talk about the film and his reasoning for going retro. I'm excited to see a completely new Terminator. This could be a great new action franchise but the hype really needs to pick up. What is holding you back from actually embracing this new Terminator? Are these descriptions from Teves helping or hurting? I strongly encourage everyone to just hold out and give it a chance

Terminator 4 Story Details Released
With shooting now underway on the first of McG's new Terminator franchise, titled Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, Warner Bros has issued a press release that reveals an overview of the plot, as well as a couple of new names in the cast. The plot synopsis is as follows:
"In the highly anticipated new installment of "The Terminator" film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind."
All fairly vague, yes, but this is only a start of shooting announcement. The release also goes on to reveal that Charlotte Gainsbourg (The Science of Sleep) will play Kate Connor, John Connor's wife who was previously played by Claire Danes; and that Jadagrace will a play a character named Star. We have no idea who Jadagrace is and can't find any mention of an actress or singer (she sounds like a singer) with that name anywhere. That is unless she's the daughter of rugby player Wally Lewis. But that would be weird because she's only two months old and probably really not up to the action scenes just yet.

Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek were in Cannes last week and sat down to answer some questions about the upcoming Terminator movie. They give some hints and ideas about the film- even answering with a very vague response about how the Governor of California aka ARNOLD may or may not be involved with the movie.
The sound cuts out between the clips I edited together- this is an artifact of the encoding but you don't miss anything critical.
