Ain't It Cool - Independence Day Meets Black Hawk Down? Battle: Los Angeles Has A Director Now
Thursday, October 2, 2008
Back in April we learned that Columbia had picked up a called Battle: Los Angeles (HERE).
Battle: Los Angeles sounds like a Pay-Per-VIew wrestling special, but it isn't. It's about a bunch of Marines grappling with an extraterrestrial invasion of L.A. - which could either be way cooler, or nowhere near as cool, as a PPV wrestling special depending on how this shakes out.
Now comes word that Jonathan Liebesman (Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and Darkness Falls) is closing in to direct.
Liebesman beat out several other prospects for the job by making a whiz-bang presentation that showed his specific vision and passion for the project, described as "Black Hawk Down" meets "Independence Day."
In August, Liebesman went out to locations in Santa Monica and downtown Los Angeles, shooting sequences and plates, and adding CGI aliens. He also created a pre-viz alien invasion sequence.
Says this article in Hollywood Reporter.
Neal Moritz (The Fast And The Furious films, xXx, and I Am Legend) will produce.
