More Twin Peaks for 2005
Posted on Fri, 22-Oct-2004

That title probably caused a few Lynch-ites to wet their trousers. It would mine too.

As any long-time reader of Moviehole knows, yours truly just glows whenever David Lynch spits out something new. Mainly, I've always had a special little place in my thumper for "Twin Peaks" (not to mention one of its stars Madchen Amick, but that's another blab). I was right there picketing the offices of the rights-holders to get the show, and film (it sucks Ok, but it doesn't mean I don't want it shoved atop of the wall of discs)out on DVD along with the rest of the freaks, ah, fans, and I've still got the pinky's linked that Season 2 and the long-rumoured "Fire Walk with Me" directors cut will also sees the light of day sometime. High hopes, say some. Or are they?

Locally, Paramount announced last year that they had the rights to "Twin Peaks : Season Two" and were planning to release it, in two separate sets, at the end of 2004. Which is ah, now. I don't need to scourer the shelves of super-K to know that the release didn't happen.

So what's the go? where's Laura Palmer's bod been shipped off too? give us an answer.

LynchNet site reports that the Season 2 DVD was delayed because Paramount plans on releasing the DVD on a global scale. "Paramount say it's almost a sure thing that you'll see Season Two, as well as a re-release of Season One with the Pilot included, released by Paramount as soon as the rights revert back to them around September 2005. The current rights holder, Lion's Gate (formally Artisan) has no plans to further exploit Twin Peaks or any of it's Spelling Entertainment titles due to the short time frame they have before the rights are lost. So it's all up to Paramount now. Our sources also tell us that part of the reason for the delay of Season Two in other international regions is to have one big release worldwide around the same time in every country, US included. So for you folks overseas, you're also being affected by the rights issue here in the US. The other, though somewhat lesser reason for the delay is to allow more time to work on bonus features", says the site.

Nice. It's still coming. But how about "Fire Walk with Me"? Is there truly any chance of seeing that Directors Cut? (for the unswerved, Lynch was forced to cut hours from the film for its original theatrical run - and that's basically the reason why it makes no frickin' sense). Maybe. Another top Lynch resource, Dugpa.com, has contacted the studio who planned on releasing the cut bits, and got a favourable response back. "MK2 has been getting lots of support from the fans to release FWWM on DVD with Deleted Scenes. I have gotten word back from MK2 that they are in fact trying to meet with Lynch once more in hopes to come to an agreement, and will be pushing their 2 Disc Collectors DVD of FWWM back to 2005. They will in fact still be releasing a single disc version in December of the film with a 5.1 English and French audio mix. In speaking with MK2, they sounded optimistic to explore every possibility".

If you're interested in picking up either the current DVD of "Fire Walk With Me" or either region 2 or region 4 "Twin Peaks : Season One" sets, we've provided links below.

Cdon har dock fortfarande box 1 så man kan bevaka den,, inte köpa den. Hoppas bara att säsong 2 släpps nu då när Paramount köper rättigheterna.
