Jag startar en ny tråd. Den här filmen nämns helt kort i tråden Triangeldrama: Rodriguez + The Jetsons + Land of the Lost, men eftersom Rodriguez tydligen inte valde Land of the Lost så väljer jag som sagt och starta en ny tråd...

I can't even crack a joke about this picture. It scares the crap out of me -- those dark eyes are hypnotizing me, freezing my very soul. I don't even want to talk about it, but I have to. Universal has just sent us this hi-res photo (click to enlarge), which comes by way of USA Today and possibly my nightmares.

They have kept the basic design, director Brad Siberling says he fought to keep their original humanoid shape -- and to keep the kitschy appeal of a man in a suit. "There is a sense of humor that I loved from the original show that can only come from an actor trying to negotiate the suit. If it became CG, they'd be too perfect. For the Sleestak to remain in people's memories, it tells you that it was about who was in the suit."

The one difference is that the Sleestaks will not be armed with crossbows, as in the original television show. Instead, they'll pull quills from their spines and fire them like arrows. Murderous lizards are funny.

SCI FI Wire: Land of the Lost will feature Jurassic-style dinos!



Danny McBride, who plays Will in the upcoming Land of the Lost movie, told reporters that the re-imagining of the classic children's TV show will feature virtual creatures that compare favorably with those in Jurassic Park and Cloverfield.

Mc Bride stars alongside Will Ferrell as has-been scientist Dr. Rick Marshall and Anna Friel as Holly, who are sucked into an alternate universe full of marauding dinosaurs and fantastic creatures. Based on the Sid and Marty Krofft show, Land of the Lost is directed by Brad Silberling and comes out June 5.

McBride said that he is just now seeing footage of the computer-generated creatures, though he filmed his live-action portions last summer, and talked about them in a group interview Friday in Universal City, Calif., where he was promoting his TV series Eastbound and Down. The following Q&A features edited excerpts of that interview.

Have you seen any Land of the Lost footage finished?

McBride: I have. I just spent four hours this morning doing [additional dialgoue recording] for it. Yeah, it looks fantastic. It looks really, really incredible, so I'm really looking forward to seeing it.

How does it feel to see yourself running from dinosaurs?

McBride: It's pretty weird. You know, I've never seen that before. No, that was really my main reason for wanting to do it. I was like, "I want to see what I look like being chased by a T-Rex." And it looks pretty cool. Yeah, I like it.

How did it compare to what you imagined when you were on the set looking at dangling tennis balls?

McBride: You know what? I thought it actually would be harder to do. It's about as hard as pretending that you're really a character anyway. It wasn't that much of a stretch. Luckily, on there, Bo Welch designed all the sets, so for the most part, I think we only had, like, a week of green-screen stuff. Everything was on real sets, and they just did a lot of set extension. So you at least weren't just acting in front of a green screen. You felt like you were actually in a world. It just gives you that much more to play off of.

Does it still feel like the show even though all the characters are grown-ups?

McBride: What it maintains about Sid and Marty Krofft's world is just any of their shows have this sort of, like, [tone]. It's geared towards one audience, but it works on a level that appeals to, I think, an older audience as well. This definitely does. It is what it is, and then all of a sudden they'll do these just crazy kind of very subversive jokes that come up, and you just can't put your finger on who this movie's aimed towards, which I think was the beauty of Sid and Marty Krofft's other TV shows. I can still watch H.R. Pufnstuf, and I love it. I think it's funny as hell and just inventive and cool. I think this movie kind of obtains all that still.

Den här filmen skall man inte ta på allvar. Rättare sagt, det är omöjligt att göra det. Förväntar man sig en seriös fantasyfilm så lär man bli bra besviken. Tar man den för vad den är så får man istället över en och en halv timme riktigt skruvad handling med en hel del roliga scener. Främst då mellan Will Ferrell och Danny McBrides karaktärer. Visuellt så är filmen rätt annorlunda i sin ton och det finns delar som är både snyggt gjorda och extremt medelmåttiga. Tydligen så är filmen baserad på en tv-serie för barn och ungdomar som gick på NBC mellan 1974-1976. Själv så har jag aldrig hört talas om den tidigare. Om jag utgår från hur den här filmen är i tonen så undrar jag vilken ton som tv-serien har. Den här filmen är rätt vågad på sina ställen och har flertalet scener som knappast kan vara lämpade för barn eller ungdomar. Men det kan ju hända att man har gjort en helt egen version som bara lånar beståndsdelar från tv-serien. Tv-seriens skapare och producenter har även varit med och producerat filmen så det skulle vara intressant att få veta om dom blir nöjda med filmen. Filmens regissör, Brad Siberling, har gjort flera filmer som jag har sett. Bland annat Casper som jag dock inte minns hur den var, Änglarnas Stad som jag inte alls gillar och sedan Lemony Snicket som jag minns som underhållande. I det stora hela så är filmen bra, underhållande och bitvis rolig. Skådespelarna gör ett bra jobb, speciellt trion Will Ferrell, Danny McBride och Anna Friel.

Minns att jag blev mer och mer kluven ju mer jag läste om den här och jag tror inte ens jag såg trailern när den släpptes.

Tydligen så skall TV-Serien ha riktigt sunkiga special effekter, och detaljen om att man inte skall ta den på allvar avskräcker mig lite...

Jag tror att dina åsikter kring den här filmen skulle överrensstämma med mina, med den skillnaden att du kanske inte finner den rolig som jag bitvis gjorde. Samtidigt så finns det ju filmer som man på förhand inte tror sig tycka om och sedan så ger man dom en chans trots allt och blir överraskad av att den är sevärd. Den här skulle mycket väl kunna vara en sådan film, det känns faktiskt som att den befinner sig i lite av en gråzon.

Jag får se om jag blir sugen på att leta upp några avsnitt av den gammla tv-serier och tar mig en titt.

Det här bygger som sagt på en TV-serie från 70-talet där en familj hamnar i ett alternativt universum som dom sedan försöker ta sig ifrån. Som jag förstår det var TV-serien mer seriöst upplagd medan här är ren och skär komedi. Will Ferell kör sitt vanliga race som man lätt känner igen om man sett andra komedier med honom. Det är också han som står för det roliga i filmen. Danny McBride har jag aldrig riktigt fastnat för och den här filmen ändrade inte min åsikt. Anna Friel har bra komisk tajming och kan vara riktigt bra om materialet tillåter som vi sett i Pushing Daisies. Här får hon tyvärr inte mycket att göra och manuset serverar egentligen bara Will Ferrell eller om det är han som improviserat fram det roliga och det är knappast Ferrell i högform vi snackar här. Det glimtar till då och då, resten är mest trams.
