Who knows what's going on in JJ Abrams' mind as he has changed the title to his upcoming monster film a handful of times, but according to CHUD the official title is Cloverfield, or so it says in the new trailer debuting in front of Beowulf November 16. If you head on over to the website you can read a play-by-play of the new trailer for the film hitting theaters January 18, 2008. The film is a giant monster movie (a parasite) shown on cheap cameras from regular people's perspective.

I have seen the trailer for the monster movie coming from producer JJ Abrams on January 18, 2008. The trailer, which was dated last week and lasts 2 minutes and 16 seconds, will debut in front of Beowulf on November 16th, and it's supposed to be when the title is announced. The version of the trailer I saw had the title attached at the end, so unless this title card was a temporary placeholder for the real title, this movie is called... wait for it...

Cloverfield.

Yep, the name we heard from the start. This does make me think that maybe this trailer, marked as Trailer #1, V.17, with "Newest FX Shots", could change between now and the 16th, especially in regards to the name. We'll see. In the meantime, here's a rundown of what I saw in the trailer (based on the notes I took when I was shown a poor quality copy of the trailer. I was only allowed to watch it twice):

It opens with text:

Multiple sightings of case designate 'Cloverfield'
Camera retrieved at incident site 'U.S. 447'
(Area formerly known as Central Park)

Then we see the footage from the teaser trailer, mostly fast forwarded up to the end, with the explosion and the Statue of Liberty's head landing in the middle of the street. Then there's a guy speaking into the camera.

Guy: My name is Robert Hawkins. Approximately seven hours ago, someTHING attacked the city.

There are flashes of chaos. Much of the trailer is made up of split second moments, and when combined with the fact that it's extreme shaky cam style and that I was watching a terrible copy, it can be hard to make things out. There's a helicopter shot of the headless Statue of Liberty.

Guy again: I have no idea what it is. If you found this,if you're watching this thing, you know more about it than i do.

Then there's a shot of jets flying overhead, in daylight.

A title card reads 'From producer JJ Abrams'

There's more flashes of chaos, there's a guy on a cellphone trying to find out where 'Beth' is, and then there's a girl yelling, 'We cannot go in the middle of the city! we've got to get out of here!'

More chaos. More quick shots. I imagine this stuff will be picked apart when the trailer debuts online.

Over this is what seems to be a conversation between an Army guy and a girl.

Army dude: There's nothing we can do right now

Girl: do you know what that thing is?

Army dude: Whatever it is, it's winning.

More flashes. An argument:

Guy 1: We have no idea what's out there!

Guy 2: I don't care what's out there. Listen to me - she's dying!

Then there's footage of army guys running and shadows on a wall. Shadows of a screaming woman being attacked by a small monster (possibly two - either she's being pulled away from the monster by someone behind her or there's another monster behind her). It's confirmed: the movie has a big beast and small ones. Like the American Godzilla.

People are hiding in a store, and there are huge thumps making everything shake. The windows of the store explode in.

The big sequence is next: Army guys running up a street, firing into the air. Tanks come up behind them, firing. Rockets launch up.

We see the big monster briefly passing between two buildings. I couldn't make it out at all, but it appeared to be HUGE.

Characters race down subway steps, there's a giant explosion, the cameraman is down, there's a figure in a tunnel, people are yelling 'Run!' and running through the tunnel.

Outside of Central Park, a horse drawn carriage goes by.

Guy: Are you still filming?

Cameraman: Yeah. People are going to want to know... how it all went down.

Shot of the Brooklyn Bridge. A helicopter taking off. Some chaos. Then inside the copter girls screaming as the copter spins out of control.

Cut to black, then the title comes up: Cloverfield.

Then the text: End of tape

Then the release date: 1-18-08

So the info I gleaned from this:

The title is Cloverfield.
There are smaller monsters.
This movie will quite probably make a lot of people motion sick.

Ny trailer, men man vet fortfarande inget. eller ja, nu vet vi titeln på filmen. Inte en titel man förväntar sig på en film som utspelar sig på Manhattan, precis.

Och jag tänkte samma sak, XC. Michael Bay-varning på trailern

Jo, man blev rätt snurrig. Men spännande var den också. Namnet "Cloverfield" har jag förstått har med kameran att göra.

Robert Hawkins...? Are you serius?


Jag tycker man fick veta rätt mycket. man fick ju tillochmed se lite av monstret. Och det verkar finnas någon sorts infektion också med tanke på den där kvinnan som plötsligt blev som en balong bakom skynket. Kan det vara så att "The Parasite" är saker som det stora monstret släpper? För där verkar vara små monster, uppfattar jag det som.

Varför skulle en kamera kallas "Cloverfield"? Med största sannolikhet är det bara ett kodnamn för incidenten med det här monstret. Det lär vara en vana för militära organisationer i USA att ge operationer/uppdrag ett epitet sammansatt av två slumpvis utvalda ord. Alla som har spelat Rainbow Six-spelen känner igen förfarandet.

Läste nånstans att Abrams förmodligen fick inspiration till titeln från någon låt där "a field of clover" nämns. På skivomslaget var ett Leviathan-väsen avbildad, dvs. ett akvatiskt reptilmonster.

Hmm, jo det kan ju vara kodnamn på incidenten. Lite svårt att veta vad de menar när de skriver sådär utan punkter.

Det är tydligen så att numera är det officiellt att filmens titel verkligen är Cloverfield.

Jag diggar monsterfilmer och bara tanken på att få se en på bio gör att jag ryser av välbehag.

Den här sidan har klippet från trailern där monstret delvis syns i slow motion. Man kan urskilja två ben, en del av torson och en lång, tjock hals. T-Rex/Godzilla-korsningen låter passande.

Allt nytt ser lovande ut. Det ska bli riktigt intressant att få se den färdiga filmen.

Tror inte jag vill se mycket mer av den här filmen innan den kommer på Bio. Känns som att den mästa upplevelsen ska vara på Bio.

I know it's only a week away, but some of you are DYING to see the monster in Paramount Pictures' Cloverfield. Today Daily Motion scored another TV Spot, which feature a very slim new look at the giant beast - read on for a look. Five young New Yorkers throw their friend a going-away party the night that a monster the size of a skyscraper descends upon the city. Told from the point of view of their video camera, the film is a document of their attempt to survive the most surreal, horrifying event of their lives.

SF-Bokhandeln har en tävling där dom tillsammans med filmbolaget lottar ut 2 x 10 biljetter till filmen. Första- till tredje-pristagaren får dessutom en t-shirt.

Vad är det för typ av biljetter? Är de generella som funkar på alla biografer eller gäller de bara en viss bio-kedja?

(Dum fråga... det kanske man skulle fråga sfbok om. )

Jag vann biobiljetter två gånger förra året och då var det egentillverkade biobiljetter från filmbolagen som man sedan bytte mot biljetter på sin biograf. Jag vet att dom tidigare om åren delade ut biocheckar på SF som pris i liknande tävlingar men att många slutade med det då man delvis var knuten till en viss biografkedja men även att många använde sina vinster till att se andra filmer istället. Nu är biljetterna knutna till den filmen du vunnit biljetter till.

Så om man vinner i SF-Bokhandelns tävling känner jag mig rätt säker på att vinsten kommer iform av egentillverkade biljetter som man sedan byter in på sin biograf. Men det är bara vad jag tror.

Har iaf tävlat, frågan var verkligen en svår nöt att knäcka.

Fast nu har SF typ köpt upp sin ända stora konkurent (Astoria, föredetta Sandrews) så nu finns bara småbolagen kvar.

Jag vinner aldrig på tävlingar men jag chansar ändå.

Anledningen till att jag frågar är att jag faktiskt vann biljetter som bara gällde i Stockholm för några år sedan... (eller några... måste ha varit i mitten på 90-talet tror jag). Men om man får en check som funkar överallt så är det ju OK.

All right, för alla som behöver stilla sin hunger för hur monstret i Cloverfield ser ut kan jag erbjuda två alternativ. Antingen genom denna .gif eller genom att ta er en titt på denna filmade Youtube-sekvens. Ingen av alternativen erbjuder någon riktigt bra kvalité men det ger en liten försmak åt vilket håll det bär iväg.

So I almost went to see Cloverfield this weekend but instead ended up in a romantic comedy. These are the things that happen to your movie viewing when you get married I guess.

After the chick-flick I was in ended, I had a chance to walk into the Cloverfield theatre for a minute and it was an amazing experience due to the excessively loud volume, the method of shooting (lots of shaking) and the content.

I have heard the movie is not so scary but it seemed like it would leave a lasting impression as it did on me after just 60 seconds.

Apparently, I am not alone in my perception of this movie as at least in one theatre, guests seem to be getting motion sickness from it. Take a look at this sign for what I mean.

Actually I am now glad my wife talked me out of seeing this movie.

Jag börjar bli lite orolig att filmen bara kommer visas på vissa utvalda biografter för min lokala SF har inga visningar den närmaste tiden iallafall.
